The "makeup studio" thing turns out to be far less fun than it first appears to be

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/hegseth-orders-makeup-studio-installed-pentagon/

The Pentagon has a media room, where officials brief the press in front of television cameras. It of course has a greenroom.

The reality of television is that if you go on it you need to wear makeup. If you don't, the intense lighting they use will either wash your complexion out and make you look dead, it'll hit the oil on your skin and look like a mirror, or it'll pass through the top layer of your skin, light up the capillaries in your face and make you look like some sort of a monster. If you're wearing a layer of foundation the light will reflect off the makeup and you'll look...well, slightly more human in the case of Hegseth.

In the old green room they had a table and chairs, pictures of former Defense secretaries on the wall, and a small mirror hanging on the back of the door for you to use to prepare yourself for the camera.

What they did is remove the table and chairs, take the mirror off the door, and then hang up a proper makeup mirror and makeup lights that they already had in a storeroom.

They are VERY concerned about all the crap he's pulling on the military like firing generals, admirals and judge advocates.

Makeup can help a bit and hide some wrinkles and blemishes, but it isn't as dire as that "...reality of television" paragraph.
I've worked in broadcast news for over 30 years. Anchors tend to be pretty vain and like to primp in the makeup area before a show, but if they skip the extra makeup they don't come out looking "...like some sort of monster." The networks that like to throw lots of money at things have dedicated makeup artists. It's probably where Trump got the idea to plaster his face with orange pancake.

Until recently I spent a decade as a videographer in the legal business and have done hundreds of video depositions with TV lighting and the subjects rarely ever go through a makeup session. And they look just fine on my HD camera.

It would be different if the leadership of this administration weren't the group screaming "waste, fraud, abuse" at every turn.
They're cutting jobs & ruining lives and reducing service to the citizenry but there was money for this?
It's the inconsistency, not the actual work done.
