I keep hearing various pundits and corporate news journalists and even a few misguided Dem politicians bemoaning the lack of a single Democratic leader. The fact that there is not one "official" leader of the party 3 and half years out from the next election really seems to bother them.
I can't help but think, though, that what some really want is someone to tear down and begin the long process of "dirtying up" like they did to Hillary so successfully, Kerry before that, and most recently, Joe Biden.
Sorry, but I think that Dems know that a moving target is harder to take out. Plus, since diversity and a plethora of great candidates with popular positions are our strengths, we don't need to rally around one person like some kind of cult.

(1,208 posts)It makes it easier to turn the reins over to someone and follow or criticize that individual. I like the democrats coming at the mango menace from many directions, it makes it more difficult to find the right target.

(4,563 posts)risks sidelining our most critical concerns with prom-king/queen-status and could just as easily end up perpetuating the status quo rather. I belive the idea of a single unifying leader who can solve the cosmetic issues is, at best, overly simplistic and at worst, dangerously naive, opening a window to its own, greater problems.

A reform council within the Democratic party from which each counselor can represent a consistent unifying message of positive changes both in media and on the road could be very helpful indeed. We desperately need to rebuild better, and that's hard to do if everything hinges on a single person's health, both physical and cultural.

(27,820 posts)The 2020 election was so obviously a united diverse party working together that it couldn't be twisted into being about one person, and no major attack from the both sides nuts wanting to replace the Democratic Party with phony revolutionaries.
The sudden leadership obsession is coming from the populist nuts. Demanding strong leaders to tell them what to do, where are the leaders, and at the same time whining "The Democratic Party has no grassroots" and change coming from below not above.
