Did you watch the Army's 250th Anniversary Parade yesterday?
My fellow veterans probably cracked up as I did seeing so many of the troops in many of the armored military vehicles waving to the crowd, encouraging cheers, giving fist pumps, making the heart sign with their hands and so forth, then turning to give a sharp salute to the President as they rolled past the reviewing stand, only to instantly return to their previous gestures to the crowds! Some of the troops on horseback did the same, but not as many as the troops in the armored vehicles.
That was a class act by the troops, no doubt about it!

(6,401 posts)That was NOT marching. More like rebellious teens showing someone 'you ain't the boss of me' and with just cause. They looked to be resentful of being expected to be props for someone's ego, and they weren't wrong. They are NOT North Korean slaves in uniforms, they are US Military and they know the difference between honor and dishonor.

(383 posts)They were doing what they were told to do. It was "sloppy" marching. What did he expect? We are NOT N. Korea.

(41,172 posts)The army certainly deserved a day to celebrate. But my suggestion was to give them a party or a picnic or give them the day off; making them march is not a celebration.

(6,624 posts)I think he would have liked to see phalanxes of formidable-looking stormtroopers in their deadliest-looking modern black battle gear, goose-stepping and sharply saluting. Big manly men with tears in their eyes, shouting, "Thank you, SIR!"
