Look, some seriously terrible shit is about to go down between Isreal and Iran, and it's mainly the fault of the war and fearmongering menace Benjamin Netanyahu. He's the real bad guy in all of this. As much as Vladimir Putin or Xi Jianping. Now here's the thing - before you go and accuse us liberals of being pro-war, because you probably heard it on Fox or some other bullshit source, here's a tip for you:
WE ARE ANTI-WAR TOO!!!
We're anti-war. We've always been anti-war. And we've always been pro-peace and prosperity, despite what dipshits like Alex Jones and Marjorie Greene tell you. Yes, Donny The Mad Emperor may be stepping into a war that a good 99.9999% of the population (+-0.000001% margin of error) doesn't want to get into. And Congress is acting swiftly to limit his power so he can't do this. But if you've suddenly thought that war with Iran may be going too far, well, you've got two options.
Either you can join us and help denounce this madness and send Mad Donny and his literal goon squad and his ass kissing propaganda channels to the trash heap where they belong, or you can continue to kiss his ass, fall for the propaganda, and be complicit in his insane quest for an infinite power trip. If you don't want to be drafted for the forthcoming shit show for Donny's infinite power trip, then do something about it! Time to put up or shut up.
Stopping this war is something that both sides should be able to agree on. But let this be a lesson - elections have more consequences than just who is in charge. You vote for him, you vote for people who support him. You vote for his agenda. NO ONE ON EARTH should have infinite power. NO ONE. The United States is a democracy, we don't stand for tyrants.

(105,801 posts)I was 11 when the US attacked Iraq. I had no idea what was going on (because I was a kid) at the time but I knew it was bad. It seems like what goes around comes around.

(105,801 posts)If enough of them joined our side to protest getting involved in Israel - Iran, maybe, just maybe, we could get that 2/3 majority needed to pass an amendment limiting presidential war powers.

(440 posts)In 1953 we overthrough the elected leader of Iran because he was going to nationalize THEIR oil fields. We (together with Great Brittain) installed the murderous dictator Pahlavi (aka the Shah).

Trump promptly ripped up the agreement when he became president in his first term because reasons. Now Trump wants to bomb Iran because Netanyahu and because he was humiliated by his pathetic military birtday parade.
Yes the Iranian people are pissed at us and they very well should be.

(465 posts)I find that to be a disgusting attitude and to be honest - I don't buy most of the bee ess I've heard about Iran my whole life.
Do I want to live there? No! Do I think they're the 'Axis of Evil'? No! Do they have some serious human rights issues with their own citizens? Yes!
Fuck Benjamin Netanyahu!

(5,688 posts)Weird, since there's a small but vocal minority of posters here who leap to the defense of Netanyahu and the IDF to try and minimize the horrors that have been unfolding in Gaza, up to and including IDF snipers targeting and assassinating literal children. They do it eagerly every single time.
Edit: that's less a war than an outright slaughter, so they might still be anti-war but not anti-genocide.

(2,129 posts)I e said since the bombings in Iran started that I felt like this could turn into Israels Iraq. Terrorist attack that provided worldwide sympathy and political cover for war, Gaza is their Afghanistan. Netenyahu has wanted to go into Iran for years, just like Bush wanted to topple Saddam. Iraq had WMDs that we needed to invade, now Israel is saying Iran was moving towards a nuke. We will see how this progresses but its eerie how similar the vibes are.
