(16,422 posts)We had a miserable cold wet Spring and I want to keep my summer vegetable garden going.

(21,921 posts)Echo Lake, but we looked southwest towards to Mt Evans [now renamed Mt Blue Sky] which still had some snow on it (?early July); he said it would a few more days before the snow would melt.
Even more impressive, looking north west was a line of snow-capped peaks all "blued" by atmospheric distance. They were part of The Continental Divide. What a glorious view. I still have the slide!

(110,350 posts)out and make it at least possible to afford to cool only my bedroom this summer but still keep my pup comfortable. The past two days have been hell. Even at 7PM it is 95F and I can hardly get my girly dog to go on her evening walk. (She's 14 and I feel awful dragging her out in that, but fortunately it is cool enough for our pre-dawn walks).
I would adore another round of cold weather, snow--whatever they want to send to me in Colorado, but I see nothing like that on our horizon.
I HATE HOT HOT WEATHER! So does my doggy girl and every other sane person I know out here.

(110,350 posts)...the snowpack early melt, so that will mean major drought along the front range from Pueblo to Colorado Springs to Denver, north to Boulder-Fort Collins, and on to the WY border.
Sigh... If only we had politicians willing to address climate change all these decades...

(36,145 posts)heat index yesterday 105, today 103, tomorrow 102 maybe?
so i went out and bought my little dog (who is also around 13 or 14 yrs) a doggie "cooling pad"
i've talked to her about it, put it under the bed where she chooses to sleep and after 3 or 4 days she is still like: "what the hell is this thing"
i put my hand on it and it feels cool. i wish she'd give it a chance. she had her chin resting on it for awhile. her arms awhile. last night i was on hands & knees, talking to her, telling her to give it a try. she reached out a little farther and put her two hands on it!
i really love cool and cold weather too. not this hot crap

(24,488 posts)Only because the sun came out
but the wind is howling and itll start raining again shortly. My whole porch is stacked to the gills with my house plants because thats where they live all summer
looks like a low of 41 tomorrow morning and thats too cold for my plant babies. Guess they all get to come in for the next two nights. Sigh. Happy Solstice in the Rockies!

(97,096 posts)As I heard about this cold today. Good grief. Normal, a bit warm though, over here. Going to be really hot the next few days, not thrilled about that but glad my garden is doing well.

(24,488 posts)I hope youre settled and doing well in your new place. AND that a Good Samaritan found your wallet along the way!
How in the world have you had time to plant a garden already? Good on you! What did you plant?

(97,096 posts)That was one of the luckiest days of my existence! DUers helped me with unloading my car and reloading after I blasted 70 miles back to retrieve it. The guy who found it was there and wouldn't accept a thank you gift, the $50 I had stashed inside.
As it turned out, I only lost about 14 hours and was only about 40 miles off course when I got back on the road. Unbelievable.
I put in the garden right away, there was no time to waste as I was a couple weeks off my timeline when I returned from Fargo in April. But things are growing and the conditions are perfect so I was lucky with that too.
Haven't found a place yet but haven't looked that hard as I had a lot to deal with when I arrived and had some grace period on housing priorities so I'm using it. I created the cushion so I could rest up after the move. Once I find a spot, I can settle in and carry on. I hope we still have a country then!
And I hope it warms up enough for you to have a flourishing garden too. I have a feeling we'll be needing the food they give us more than usual.
MontanaMama
(24,488 posts)we can grow. I started my garden way earlier this year to get a head start. Theres been lots of covering with the whacked out weather but I think itll end up being a win in the end even with all the extra efforts.
Even with the cold and rain, theres a science fiction convention here in Missoula as well as the Pride celebration. The streets have been packed with glorious weirdos and people having a good time. Nobody being angry assholes that Ive seen or heard about. Its been a nice reprieve from the dystopian hellscape that is now our existence. Missoula recently adopted the Pride flag as an official city flag and our thug Governors panties were all bunched up over that
he said we should be ashamed. I thought that would make you crack a smile.

(30,270 posts)Boy - did we need the moisture though! Flathead Lake will not reach full pond.
MontanaMama
(24,488 posts)and all the politics that go with that is its own thing, isnt it? I saw Ryan Zinke having big public feelings about that.
Yes, we need the moisture badly. So many wildfires so early in the season already.

(1,944 posts)on June 15 I was camping above Bozeman near Battle Ridge and it poured down snow for awhile. Didn't really accumulate much but it was fun to snap photos of to send back to my Virginia friends since at the time they were having a heatwave much like today. I'm in Virginia at the moment and would love some snow. Not a summer person at all, especially not an east coast miserable humid summer person.

(5,741 posts)Four inches of snow sounds quite refreshing, actually. But then, I'd take winter or autumn over summer any day.
YMMV.

(2,467 posts)'Course, we were overdue for one, and two weeks ago I was bringing seedlings into the house some nights because the temps were so low (but not quite freezing).... this was the coolest spring in my recent memory.
Yeah, I was just saying to my neighbor "wish we could take ten degrees off this heat wave,
and add it to 3 weeks ago..."

(58,303 posts)If so, I hope it's over by 5 AM tomorrow, as I have to get an early start over to Sprout City, where my first work appointment starts at 10:00.
Meanwhile, back in North America, my brother in Virginia has sent photos of the aftermath of a huge storm that downed trees and power lines. It was 48 hours before the power came back on.
For the rest of this week, I have to be down in Bavaria Tuesday, and in Madrid by Wednesday night, having to stay until Sunday. There is no rest for the weary.
