Not the first president to authorize military action in the middle east, not likely to be the last.

Presidents of both parties have authorized bombing against military targets in the middle east over the years:

Reagan: Libya bombing 1986
GWHbush: The Gulf War, 1990
Clinton: Operation Desert Fox in 1998; Cruise missile strike on Iraq targets in 1993
GWBush: Iraq War 2003
Obama: 2016 bombing of targets in Libya
Trump: 2018 bombing of targets in Syria
Biden: 2021 bombing of targets in Syria and Iraq; 2024 strikes on targets in Yemen, Iraq and Syria

Some of these were carried out by the US alone, others as part of multi-national coalitions. Some were targeting groups like Isis or Al-Qaeda.

But none of them triggered "WWIII" as some here are saying is the inevitable result of Trump's actions. And none of led to any form of lasting peace, either.

True, but this is potentially much messier because Iran is supported by Russia. Ocelot II Saturday #1

Maybe it won't start WWIII, but it has the potential to be as much of a quagmire as Iraq.

Why would they start it over Iran? Seriously.

I don't think Putin will start WWIII either, but he's a complication beyond the Middle East.

That means we should be up to WWX (10) by now, based on the list above.

It’s a horrible event, but reacting with hysterical hyperbole, as some here have done , doesn’t help anyone.

Am I one of the "usual suspects" or is that a reference to the folks predicting WWIII, ten dollar gas and soldiers on the ground in the next couple of weeks?
