It was a stretegic mistake to get involved in the Israel-Iran war

Israel was committed to their mission, and they would have completed it with or without the US. Getting involved puts the US in a weaker standing relative to the world and in our long-term dealings with Iran. It will not solve the long term problems with Iran getting nukes.

I think Trump also made a political mistake. He supposedly was committed to world peace and "no stupid wars." This attack completely undermines his position. Bannon and others recognized that. Not sure why Trump fell for it, but I think he was chasing glory against easy target. Iran was already defenseless and Trump, being the bully that he is, couldn't resist kicking them while they were down.

Iran invited attack with their tepid response to the previous flareups with Israel. It became obvious that they were avoiding confrontation when it mattered after years of belligerent talk.

This is not a question of whether Iran "deserved it" because of their past terrorist activity and threats to Israel and US. It's just a question of whether the US should have done it when Israel was already committed to the job.

And with Iran being the "eye for an eye" types, it wouldn't surprise me if they went after US power infrastructure.

The only thing Trump is committed to is grifting and self-aggrandizement.

"It became obvious that they were avoiding confrontation..."

Iran has long been known to be a rational actor. Their recent show of restraint in the region was another signal that they understood the boundaries for action. Netanyahu and Trump saw it only as weakness.

Well, lesson learned.

But they really haven’t. Israel has been able to do almost anything they want since the first minute. I would expect that there would be an actual fight to keep Israel out of Iran’s skies, with planes, drones, and missiles lost by Israel. Also, I would expect responses like crippling cyber attacks, marching an army across the desert, naval activity, etc. Iran hasn’t been able to do any of it. That is not because of restraint.
