General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThe media censorship in Israel is
now very heavy with literally all photos and video of damage etc. having to pass through the military media censor. So determining the actual impact of strikes may be compromised by restrictions placed on the media. Likewise the effect of any internal criticism or demonstrations. The international organization for journalists ranks Israel 112th out of 180 countries and that was before the increased restrictions since the recent attacks on Iran have brought a military response from Iran. The ranking certainly doesn't go higher when restrictions are increased. The point here being that while people decry the credibility of reporting from other governments there is ample reason to consider doubts about the current reporting from the Israeli media as well especially when it quotes the government or the military. Here's a headline dated 05/03/25 from Haaretz. The article itself is behind a paywall.

(36,855 posts)The Korean War in the US media was regulated.
LBJ and others since him have been the exception. But that's just the US.
Notice that Iran's even cut outside Internet and some other communications links.

(7,545 posts)but what is/has been going on in Israel as well is no "flower of democracy" moment and so when the media there quote the IDF or the government in describing damage, actions etc. there are major credibility issues as well as in countries like Iran, China, Turkey, Hungary etc. So when the government says little to no damage there is no reason to take that at face value as there would be no reason to take a similar report from the Tehran Times. The governments of Israel over the years have a long history of lying and deception even with their supposed "friends" like the US. The point here being that most all governments tell lies to their own people and the rest of the world and so people should not "accept" one any more readily than the other.

(7,545 posts)worldwide organization of journalists. They accurately cited what the organization ranked and said. The fact you don't like it or them doesn't change that it is a factual report of what the organization ranked and said.

(7,545 posts)said this or gave a particular ranking is not an opinion. It is a fact. You don't like it because it's Haaretz or because of because but it doesn't change the fact that Haaretz accurately reported what an organization said and what ranking they gave. I could care less what any other organization gave for some other ranking or criteria since it is extraneous to whether Haaretz accurately reported what the organization they referenced said and the ranking they gave.
