The Iranian Navy is comprised of a few cigarette boats by comparison to even a medium sized country.

If they try to close the Strait of Hormuz, the entire Arab peninsula will cheer Trump on to blow their asses out of the water when the Saudis can't ship their oil.

Probably a stupid move on Iran's part.

China and the rest of the world may experience a blip in supply if Iran pulls another stunt. However, commerce hates a vacuum and it will quickly be filled with supplies being ticked up worldwide to fill the vacuum.

Iran only supplies around 15% of the world's oil.

Iran has their own sack by their own short hairs. They caused this by being a constant crazy thorn to every Arab neighbor plus Israel. Iran is like the crazy brother that nobody wants to invite to Sunday dinners for fear he'll pull a knife out a stab everyone at the party. No Arab states trust Iran...None.

Anything Iran does to upset global oil exports will be further despised by all other Arab countries.

I have heard it reported that the Parliament has backed closing the Strait and that there is a strategic council that will maybe decide one way or the other.

At time I am writing this I don't think you can post a link to an authentic report that it is definitively going to be closed (although things can changed quickly).

The Parliament does not have the authority to close the Strait.

Closing the Strait is one of them. They have leverage, and they're compelled to use it. There are risks with anything, but equations change after unprovoked intrusions into Iran's territory. Israel's and the US's aggression is indeed provocative and begs for retaliation. God isn't making these decisions. Imperfect people are making them: people with varying motivations and misperceptions that do NOT have "peace" as the endgame. Iran is also an imperfect victim. They could have done plenty to avoid conflict with Israel in the medium and long term. They are partially responsible for all of this, but as singular incidents, the bombing, the destruction and the aggression comes from the US and Israel. They are the perpetrators of international crimes. End of story.

Sun Jun 22, 2025, 02:21 PM

Iran's parliament approved a measure June 22 endorsing the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a major oil transportation route, following U.S. airstrikes in Iran.

Around 20% of the world's oil and gas flow through the narrow channel connecting the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman. Its closure would likely mean rising fuel costs for global consumers, including Americans.

While Iranian state media reported that the parliament had agreed to endorse blocking the strait, the decision ultimately belongs to Iran's Supreme National Security Council.

Do something similar to one massive oil tanker and you'll absolutely shut down ship transit out of fear, especially if the tanker catches fire and sinks. Or use drones. The Ukrainian have been sinking large Russian naval ships with drone boats stuffed with explosives.

All you need to do is seriously damage one big ship to start a panic.

will awaken the masses. I get tired of repeating myself, however, and I’m tending back toward the ‘frog in a pot of water being heated’ analogy. My pessimism is gaining the upper hand, so I think there will be nothing past mere aggrievement. By the time people burn through their proudly-obtained final tank of cheap gas, the world will have changed in unprecedented and unimaginable ways - even for me, and I spend way too much time running scenarios in my head anyway.

The rump regime will now unleash a deluge of wartime powers - real and imaginary, mostly unlawfully - to the detriment of everyone worldwide. And they’ll get help from enemies of the USA who didn’t just quit hating when the orange menace first corrupted the office of president. They’ve been biding their time to carry out asymmetrical attacks, and American pilots dropping bombs on Iran seems a likely tripwire for commencing… well, who TF knows? Our intelligence community is presently focused on Democrats - not international terrorism.

Slap me silly for saying so, but a military government for a brief transitional time is in my top 5 favorable scenarios - not favorable personally, but favorable existentially.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations advisory reports ongoing high electronic interference in the region, especially disrupting GPS systems. Interference originates from Bandar Abbas and the central Arabian Gulf, causing some vessels to navigate the Strait of Hormuz only during daylight. Increased ship congestion is also noted near Dubai and southern Gulf of Oman.

Americans over 50 likely remember the Tanker War during the 1980s. Iran and Iraq were at war, and both sides attacked merchant shipping.

The U.S. intervened to protect the oil tankers, leading to "low-intensity" shooting conflict between the U.S. and Iran.

They have yet to scramble their Air Force. It was destroyed on the ground.
If they shoot a missile at a US ship, we will destroy their remaining launchers within days if not sooner.
