65 Percent of People Taken by ICE Had No Convictions, 93 Percent No Violent Convictions

New nonpublic data from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) indicate that the government is primarily detaining individuals with no criminal convictions of any kind. Also, among those with criminal convictions, they are overwhelmingly not the violent offenses that ICE continuously uses to justify its deportation agenda. ICE has shared this data with people outside the agency, who shared the numbers with the Cato Institute.

As of June 14, ICE had booked into detention 204,297 individuals (since October 1, 2024, the start of fiscal year 2025). Of those book-ins, 65 percent, or 133,687 individuals, had no criminal convictions. Moreover, more than 93 percent of ICE book-ins were never convicted of any violent offenses. About nine in ten had no convictions for violent or property offenses. Most convictions (53 percent) fell into three main categories: immigration, traffic, or nonviolent vice crimes. I suspect there would be fewer if the people "covicted" were "whit" and given a pass.

We knew they weren’t going after the criminals. They were going after the farm workers, the restaurant workers, the landscaping and hospital workers. They are going after the people who work and make our nation work. It is so fucking frustrating I just want to scream. They are destroying this nation starting from the bedrock.

I knew it would be this way. ICE has 25 Field Offices around the country, when Stephen Miller chewed out the leadership of those offices and threatened to fire the leadership of the lowest performing offices if they didn't meet his 3000 arrests per day, it guaranteed this would happen. ICE doesn't have the resources to meet those numbers, so they go after the low hanging fruit to pad their stats.

Raiding elementary school graduations.

Arresting 60 year old lady selling tamales on the corner.

Picking up asylum seekers who are attending immigration court hearings.

Restaurant workers.

Field hands.

Construction workers.
