Didn't Catholics break for Trump by a sizable margin in the election? Is he their new Pope? Breaking from Rome, are they?

(3,097 posts)Catholic vote was about 55/44 for Trump.
Anecdotally my sister has been friends with a very wealthy, very, very Republican family from church for fifty years. Three people from their family came to Amarillo today to see Bernie with my sister. Unfortunately Bernie had to go to a briefing on the Iranian situation and had to cancel.
And in defense of the Church in Amarillo, I would point out that Bishop Matthiesen back in the 70's was very anti-war during a time when that was dangerous (windows shot out) in Amarillo. He offered to find jobs for anyone, regardless of their religion, who didn't want to continue to work at Pantex where nuclear bombs were assembled.

(20,835 posts)and her line came from Leitrim, where two families had moved from Donegal 3-400 years ago. I have a Great Great Great Grandfather born in the late 18th century there. A cousin of mine was working with someone on establishing the link between the Leitrim and Donegal Dohertys but unfortunately she passed away a few years ago.
I do have a pdf of the Donegal descendant line from
♂ Donal DOCHARTACH
Dochartaig 'The Destroyer', Dochartach
b. 0790 at Finn River, Tyrconnal, Ireland
m. Wife of Donal DOCHARTACH
If you are interested.

(3,097 posts)Three to four hundred years ago would have put it probably right after Cahir's Rebellion. That was certainly a turbulent time, to say the least. The Doherty side is my Mother's Dad as well. My Mother's Mom was a Malone. If I remember my Doherty Grandfathers who were born in the late 18th century were Micheál Mór and Cornelius.
