Imagine that. 20% of the world's oil passes through that Strait. The final decision rests with Iran's National Security council.
There are problems for Iran to completely close off the Strait; China is friendly with Iran and is its biggest oil customer. The US 5th Fleet is patrolling the Persian Gulf just to keep shipping lanes open.
IMO Iran will do specific targeting of vessels, will use mines, will harass tankers, I don't think it will totally shut it down. Eventually our 5th Fleet would open it back up but that would take longer than a couple of days.
Regardless, $100 per barrel oil is on the horizon, if a Democrat were president it would already be here.

Doubt he will shrink from sinking the Iranian navy, if they try to close the strait--
This of course will also be framed as "just another one-time action"...
"The final decision rests with Iran's National Security council."
Sure, whatever they say.

(37,649 posts)If they are carrying Iranian oil, they will let them through.
Other Gulf states, the tankers will be boarded and inquired for destination.
