What Would Trump Do If There Was a Terrorist Attack That He Could Blame on Iran? Think Patriot Act On Steroids

Look at how Trump has rolled back civil liberties based on the pretext that the US is being "invaded" by undocumented immigrants. Think of how Netanyahu used the terrorist attack by Hamas as basis for engaging in genocidal operations in Gaza. It makes you wonder whether Trump is purposely escalating tensions in the middle east with the hope that some terrorist group will target the US the way Hamas did Israel.

Before Hamas's attack on Israel, there a lot of folks in the progressive American Jewish community who were very sympathetic to the plight of Palestinians in Gaza and opposed right wing Israeli efforts to expand into Gaza. However, the Hamas attacks caused many moderates to quiet their opposition, which paved the way for Netanyahu to dramatically expand efforts to engage in no--holds bar effort to eliminate Hamas even if this means engaging in genocide.

In the US, we have seen how Presidents can fail-up. Dubya rode his failure to prevent the 9-11 terrorist attacks into sky high approval ratings based on his belated efforts to respond, which resulted in an unrelated war in Iraq. Likewise, the greater Trump's failure to prevent a likely terrorist attack in response to mercurial decisions in the Middle East, the greater the pretext he will have to erode civil liberties. Trump might not be popular in New York City, but if there is a major terrorist attack on NYC, most New Yorkers would jump on Trump band wagon to bomb the crap out of whatever boogeyman Trump points the finger at, because we love our scapegoats. Indeed, many of this Board would likely just turn inward, and blame Democrats for not doing enough to stop Trump.

Heck, perhaps Trump should just cut to the chase, and start laying off TSA workers, burn the Koran during an interview, and claim that he is not only a Christian messiah, but the second coming of Mohammed, then he just needs to shuffle back into the oval office to wait for a slightest hint of a terrorist attack so that he can starting calling in armed forces to occupy areas of political resistance while conservatives cheer him on in the name of freedom and progressives focus on blaming Democratic leaders for not doing enough to inspire them to do something beyond complaining on liberal message boards.

Dubya was so fixated on Iraq that he ignored warnings of a possible terrorist attack like the 9-11 attack. Trump does not even have the cognitive capacity to sit through a briefing. Of course, Trump is responsible, because he was probably would see a terrorist attack as a win-win for him in that it gives him a pretext to take away people’s freedom while getting cheered on by the public.

Look at how Republicans who were happy to sit on the sidelines as Russia invaded Ukraine are now happily cheering on Trump’s unilateral attacks on Iran as he is lead by the nose by Netenyahu.

Joe Biden will be target number one.

Beyond that we'll be subjected to the nonsense of Russian/North Korean/Chinese levels of official dishonesty.

A domestic terrorist attack, especially one with mass casualties, that he can pin on *any* foreign national would give him carte blanche in his own eyes and in those of his cultist followers to essentially suspend or ignore any portion of our constitution or legal system he wishes. Mass deportations and interments by the millions would soon follow. American citizens who protest or take umbrage will also be arrested and detained en masse indefinitely without legal recourse. As a cherry on top, he'll give his crimes and final destruction of our Republic some stupid name, like "Big Beautiful Freedom Act".

I really wish I was just being hyperbolic here, but not only is this scenario plausible but extremely likely if not inevitable in the event of (God forbid) an attack on the scale of 9/11 in terms of casualties and horror, and perhaps even following an attack on a smaller scale as well.

We're living in dark times indeed.
