First, I'm an internet nobody, no credentials, no renown, nothing, so this is on a for-what-it's-worth basis. Second, my calling the bombing his "stunt" in no way means I am minimizing the potential for disaster. What I *do* say is that KRASNOV has become known to us since 2015 with all the analysis and biographical patterns to be incredibly empty of self-worth and craving endless attention, which he apparently imagines to be acknowledgment of his worth as a specimen. We know all the stories of his planting stories in the tabloids in his NYC days - positive about him and negative about his rivals, calling himself John BARRON, and how he even interprets negative publicity about himself to be valuable by keeping him in the headlines.
We're all too familiar to the point of exhaustion with his daily, and even hourly via tweets, of outrageous spoutings, which is his Marketing, anything to keep himself in a state of permanent advertising. And he is completely unscrupulous about appropriating slogans and techniques that worked for others, and in his current public role, recycling historical material likely fed to him by researchers - Populism exemplified by Andrew JACKSON, "America First" from the isolationists like Charles LINDBERG, even "MAGA" used previously (by RAYGUN?), and all the many more. Comedians and musicians are zealots about protecting their intellectual property, but historians seem to have mostly let KRASNOV slide.
It's been every-day-another-stunt. And a corollary is to hit and run: When his lies are exposed, he never admits, at most just brushes off as though denying and ignoring make things just disappear. He's not completely used to the vast amount of scrutiny his public role is susceptible to and it hasn't caught up to him in terms of not-sticking. When the rest of us of his age were adolescents we saw the tsunami of books about HITLER and realized, that even if late, all the clean or dirty details of public life would be exposed, and at extreme length. But he probably didn't have that realization from lack of reading those things.
*******But to the point: He has long used stunts to deflect from negativities. So, his polls were down, protests were spreading across the nation, his dictator parade hit with a thud, he was openly mocked and ran away from a meeting of world leaders. What to do, well pull the Stunt cord, each stunt having to be bigger than the last, and this time dropping big bombs, the *biggest ever* bombs, never before used. Checks all the boxes - coddles the ready made contingent of NeoCons, scares the leaders out of their mockery, cheers the Fundies about a Second Coming, "unifies" all sides for a War President, reaps 90% poll ratings like for the two BUSHes, gains even more leeway for dictating orders outside of oversight.
*****ON EDIT: Within a day of the bombs the news was that no justification is known so far about the immediacy of any nuclear threat from Iran, adding to the stunt premise.
Add to his motivations, his will to authoritarianism, ruling by his orders, exploiting the loopholes for individual dictum (Pardons, stretching the limits of Emergency powers) .
After getting started on this here, saw this related tangent of KRASNOV's smallness and pettiness relayed from Mary TRUMP that fits:

.... She wrote Sunday in her The Good in Us newsletter that her uncles attention-starved fragile ego was devastated by the name-calling [being called 'TACO' ] ― enough so to pull the trigger on a military operation that could plunge the United States into war. ....
It is long past time that we stop imputing some deeper or reasonable motives to Donald Trump. Despite being depraved and cruel, much like his cohort Benjamin Netanyahu, he is driven by the most primitive impulses that center almost solely around protecting his fragile ego from humiliation (about which he has a pathological terror) and himself from the reality that he is a complete fraud.
Donald is still no doubt stinging from the acronym recently coined to mock his inability to follow through on anythingTACO: Trump Always Chickens Out. In the wake of Israeli strikes against Iran, Donald spent a few days saber-rattling only to back off (chicken out, if you will) in the wake of searing criticism by some of the most reliably sycophantic members of his culte.g. Rep. Marjorie Green (R-GA), Alex Jones, and Steve Bannon. He announced at a bizarre press conference that his decision to address the ostensibly urgent crisis regarding Iran would be put off for two weeks.
Only two days later, he ordered the attack on Iran. His allies would have us believe that Donald, a brilliant strategist, was faking us out. Sure. An infinitely more plausible explanation is that, on the one hand, he hates being challenged or contradicted, especially from those who almost always fall in line; therefore, he felt the need to double-down on his threats by carrying them out. On the other hand, Donald is a desperate black hole of needby changing the narrative, he could make sure the spotlight turned back on him.

(4,207 posts)He even cynically viewed the cleanup after 9-11 as sort of a spectacle. He lied that he paid private contractors to help with the cleanup.
This phony showman just might bring on a nuclear Armagedón.

(4,207 posts)As far as I know, maybe the bombing was justified. Fine. My worry is that he is now talking about "regime change" which would be an even bigger stunt for him.
It is sad that it had to be Vance who was the voice of reason yesterday. Vance stated the U.S. is not at war with the county of Iran, but rather with its nuclear program. Of course, Krassenuf had to immediately knock the legs out from under Vance and declare that "regime change" is a possible goal of the U.S. Such an all-out war with the government of Iran can indeed lead to Word War III from which there would be destruction of apocalyptic proportions.
