The Right Isn't Better at Fighting Crime -- In Fact, Crime Often Gets Worse Under Republicans

One of the most persistent myths in U.S. politics is that Republicans are “tough on crime” and therefore better at preventing it. But the data doesn’t back that up. Historically, crime rates have not consistently dropped under Republican leadership. In fact, major crime surges have happened during Republican administrations, both at the federal and state level.

Take violent crime: it peaked in the early 1990s under George H.W. Bush, and saw a long decline throughout the Clinton and Obama years. During Trump's term, violent crime and homicides spiked again, particularly in 2020. Red states consistently have higher murder and incarceration rates than blue states, despite all their “law and order” rhetoric.

The truth is, fighting crime takes more than slogans and more police. It requires investing in communities, addressing poverty, improving education, and providing mental health care, solutions the right often undercuts. Being “tough” isn’t the same as being effective.

This is especially addressed to those that are currently losing their shit over the Zohran primary victory in NYC.

To understand the concept of support. If you remove support systems and services, people resort to crime to get what they need.

I also believe it is because the right likes to incarcerate people of lower income status. AZ had private contractors to administer our prison system. If we didn’t fill the beds tax payers paid more.
I was truly shocked when one of our state right wingers realized we were paying more for empty beds and vowed to take action. Not sure if anything changed or not, haven’t heard about it in a while.

All of their policies harm the very people who vote for them.

Until these people figure that out, they will continue to vote for these useless, lying, corporate suck-ups, and Christians Nationalists.
