The beginning starts with all just talking standing by the white car.
The woman 'official' drives the car with the arrested woman sitting in the front seat--hands tied in front of her.
The person filming follows the 2 men to their car and truck. she is filming all the way. strange. I really do not know what to think of it.

(25,781 posts)No badges, no I.D.'s, nothing. More telling--no masks, so no usual uniform. Either this woman was coming from an immigration hearing, or kidnapped for human trafficking.

(50,494 posts)Certainly looks different from what we usually see in these videos.

(40,551 posts)It sounds like the total low-life method they would use.
Search this: "Maryland bounty hunter laws" and you will see they allow any old slob to go out and be a bounty hunter.

Maryland Bounty Hunter School and License Requirements
Although bounty hunters are allowed to operate in Maryland, no license is needed and no laws are in place governing their activities.

I believe you're on to something, PatSeg.

(50,494 posts)Plus ICE is being given some pretty ridiculous quotas to fill, so hiring civilian bounty hunters and paying hefty sign-on bonuses could speed things up. Even more points if you provide your own vehicle and weapons. Cheaper than providing uniforms, guns, and government cars.
In my opinion, this is probably the primary reason so many of them cover their faces.
NJCher
(40,551 posts)good points about the incentives.
Here's another one: did you see the story that trump's bill has billions to hire more ICE agents?
Bet they're telling them that if they operate independently for now, they'll be in line for a nice federal position with insurance and all that good stuff.

(50,494 posts)I have a feeling a lot of these guys were probably desperate to get any kind of decent paying job. I'm trying to imagine what kind of NDA they had to sign.

I would like to know how they got records of the undocumented woman with a court-date? How do they know what she looked like? And where she was going to be? I mean if they are bounty hunters, or piano movers on sabatical who have been deputized, where did they get the intel?
Who is feeding them these names and whereabouts? An accomplice in the court system getting a cut of the bounty?
AND KUDOS TO THAT WOMAN and the person filming. I wouldn't have the guts to do what she did.

(39,918 posts)I'm simply stunned. At all of it. And I'm stunned at what I perceive as a lack of concern from the Democratic Party. There are several one-offs, AOC & Bernie, Chris Murphy, Jamie Raskin, Eric Swalwell, & some other, but where's the unified voice of rage? I read through an FB post of Senator Hickenlooper's this morning. It was a a few weeks old, but there were a ton of comments asking & pleading the dems to do more, to speak out more, to show more fight.
On the subject of recording scenes like this, I bought an audio/video recorder about the size of a TV remote that I keep clipped on my visor. It was less than $50 so I don't have to risk my phone or go searching for it in my purse in the backseat. Know the laws in your state regarding recording, though.

It has gone really bad really quickly. Indeed, where's the unified voice of rage?

(32,997 posts)Dont misunderstand what I mean, Im included in this, but what I am saying is the commensurate response to what is happening is a physical and massive revolt. That would end the ice operations and mega, and this administration and those Supreme Maga justices, Im not suggesting how it would end them, but either they are ended or we are ended.

(40,551 posts)blue states or any others, for that matter, to enact laws and licensing plus mandatory education and training for bounty hunters. See my post above regarding Maryland's:

(52,497 posts)Bounty Hunter is slang for Bail Enforcement Agent - the people bail bondsmen hire to catch people who skipped out on the bail the bondsmen put up. Since these guys arent doing that, our current Supreme Court would say bounty hunter laws dont apply to them.

(956 posts)These people that are doing the handcuffing, are installing a "belly chain" and what is usually colloquially called a "hook up". That means, there are a separate individual handcuff attached to the belly chain on each side that basically hold a person's arms down to their side without having to have them behind their back with handcuffs.
This type of restraint set-up is usually reserved for compliant, non-aggressive suspects or routine inmate court movement.

(14,310 posts)I think she should file an assault and battery charge.
I don't think that's ICE....It looks like a fugitive warrant team to me. She also looks like she knew it was legit.
