(6,249 posts)New Mexico has been a solidly Democratic state for some time now. And Arizona has 2 Democratic Senators and a Democratic Governor.
Not remotely funny if you were trying to make a joke.
Xavier Breath
(5,895 posts)But, you knew that.
I would humbly suggest that, on the scale of what offends, putting words in someone's mouth would have to be right up there.
But, I suspect you knew that, too.
Wiz Imp
(6,249 posts)I didn't put words in your mouth. You said "They Should Go Back To Mexico". I'm sorry but that is super damn offensive. If you can't understand why, then I don't know what to say. I don't even know why I'm responding to a person who appears to enjoy being offensive. You're not funny and you're not clever. I'm done.

(2,881 posts)If this has something to do with the immorality of the Mexican war,
then of course California and Texas should be included in that package...

(5,895 posts)The op also suggests Virginia going to Canada. So, just variations on the same theme: the absurdity of any of our states joining other countries.

And btw Canada would not approve. Speaking as a Canadian.

(3,435 posts)Today is a bleak day. In Canada too, but of course mostly in your country.
I should not have interfered and brought my own anger and frustration to an O/P that is about letting off steam using humour on a terrible day.
Mea culpa. I was wrong.

(2,881 posts)but we do have a Democratic governor with +50 approval ratings,
and have had 2 Democratic U.S. Senators since sometime in the 1990's--
and finally flipped our legislature to Democratic control a few years ago,
although we lost one house in the past election....
The 2016 and 2024 victories for Trump were unfortunate flukes,
but we've been solid for the Democratic presidential nominee since 1992,
other than those two unfortunate years....
and I am expecting a Democratic BLOWOUT in Michigan, in 2026 and 2028!
So please don't write us out of the union---- oh wait, LMAO

(27,724 posts)Canada, and there are so many of us that we'd drown out their own unique national identity and culture(s).
We need to fix our own country, or at least form our own new countries out of the blue states.

(9,692 posts)Rather than full on joining?

(5,784 posts)Canada would effectively cease to exist - the population of California alone is about the same as Canada. I'm also guessing the number of MAGAts alone in the joining states would be at least Canada's population.
Quebec would additionally shit a brick as its language & culture would be swamped.
As well, I expect Russia and China would approve as the US as a "super power" would be greatly diminished.
It is a fantasy that will never happen, Infinitely better for Democrats for stay in the US and fight.

(4,845 posts)Also, there was stated the belief that we/or rather some of the States couldn't secede from the Nation. I don't believe that is a 100% true.
Donald Trump already treats the Blue states as if we are no longer part of the United States, only the states that supported him are entitled to status in the U.S. of A.
Nations split apart, it happens, the only question is whether or not it would be peaceful or do we need to spill blood along the way.
If enough of the population has had enough of this MAGA bullshit - then it will split. One could make the argument that we have already split in many ways. As one person said, the Republicans don't want us, the current President hates us, and MAGA thinks that we are all liberals deserving of re-education camps and more.
The current GOP/President/MAGA doesn't believe in science, education, tolerance, (add your own here) and are quite content to live in a backward isolated life without exposure or knowledge of the rest of the world. They believe that Donald Trump was sent by GOD and he is their chosen one, followed by criticism of him is forbidden. Their reality is one that is divorced from fact or truth. Plus, they are demanding that we worship their religion and pray to their GOD, and all others religions are "not real".
Come on, we have already split apart as a nation - with Donald doing everything that he can to incite the Blue states to violence so that he can unleash the dogs of war on us. What he is doing now is funding the secret police (ICE) so that he can do the Argentina things to us, like coming in the dead of night and disappearing us. The only question is - how much more can the nation stand.
Maybe, as long as it isn't happening to White people just Brown and Black - it is tolerable. Problem is, that eventually he will run out of Black and Brown and what is now an aberration soon becomes the norm. When it becomes the norm, then he will widen the net - coming for those that disagree with the nation-state (as defined by Trump) or expressed as a sentiment that is contrary to the MAGA norms. Then, neighbor will turn on neighbor, family will turn on family and there is nothing left, except fear.
No, the nation is splitting - it's just waiting for the insides to further spoil and ferment a little more - and like a melon, explode from the pressures.
my thoughts.

Why Russia Wants to See California Secede
The Kremlin has a long history dealing with secessionist movements within the Russian and Soviet empires. Now Moscow is using the experience to weaponize secession movements elsewhere.

(2,881 posts)However, glad that Michigan was included as also annexing to Canada on that map,
even though too many of us (I mean, THEM...) fucked up in the last election,
and in 2016.....
Those clearly were flukes, as we have had 2 Democratic US Senators
since about 1994 (?), and voted for the Democratic presidential nominee since 1992,
except for those two most unfortunate Trump elections....
