"My response is, I have an obligation to the people of the state of Alaska," Murkowski said, referring to exemptions to Medicaid and SNAP benefit cuts she obtained for her state. "I fight for my state's interests, and I make sure that Alaskans are understood."
"And so when people suggest that federal dollars go to one of our 50 states in a, quote, 'bailout,' I find that offensive," she continued. "I advocated for my state's interests. I will continue to do that, and I will make no excuses for doing that."

Murkowski acknowledged "that in many parts of the country, there are Americans that are not going to be advantaged by this bill."
"I don't like that," she insisted. "I don't like the fact that we moved through an artificial deadline, an artificial timeline to produce something to meet a deadline rather than to actually try to produce the best bill for the country."
"But when I saw the direction that this is going, you can either say, I don't like it, not try to help my state, or you can roll up your sleeves," the senator added.

NEW: Sen. Lisa Murkowski stares me down for more than 10 secs after I ask her to respond to Sen. Rand Pauls critique of the deal she struck to get her to a YES and pass the OBBB.
Do I like this bill? No. But I tried to take care of Alaskas interests.

(43,437 posts)You fail the logic test. Voting NO would have helped Alaskas Interests quantum leaps more than voting YES. But you are what you are Lisa. And will go down in Alaskan and American History thusly.

(19,920 posts)...it involved someone being abducted and a ransom being demanded.
And one of the characters observed that the kidnapper might just take the ransom money, keep it, and demand more, without returning the hostage.
That meshes with what you shared. Anyone who gives Trump what he wants and is foolish enough to believe it's a binding agreement in perpetuity is probably not smart enough to be in Congress. It makes them an ideal mark for Trump, but not much beyond that.

(19,920 posts)Her catch phrase was "Goes to show, it's always something."
Murkowski basically copped out by saying bad things were gonna happen anyway, so she could either let every state including Alaska get screwed, or she could do the "yum yum, gimme some" thing, because having that money is better than not having that money.
A real profile in "courage."

(8,119 posts)What a vile scum this women is. To think we were courting her to switch to being a Democrat a week ago. I think we see what kind of human being this is, and I don't want it representing Democratic values. She belongs a Republican, she has no values, no morals, and no principles.
