Apologies if this is TMI, but it's true.
My only son died of natural causes as an infant, and I have had numerous miscarriages.
It was pain beyond belief.
Now, I'm grateful.
This planet is going to hell.
More and more, I am convinced we are going to have the runaway greenhouse effect that turned Venus into a hellscape.
I think it will happen in my lifetime. (Gen-X)
Before that happens, I expect to see Fascism take over the globe politically.
I'll continue to fight, do what I can, but every day I feel our doom getting closer.

(77,560 posts)I worry about my children and grandchildren. And all of the good human beings.
It was not "TMI." You expressed the level of dread that saturates our society, that go beyond the pain that a "normal" life brings ..... whatever the fuck "normal" is.

(3,469 posts)I grew up a half century ago in a very, very red area of Texas. I have no idea the number of times that I was told growing up that I was going to burn in hell for all eternity.
If the only punishment for being gay is to burn in hell for all eternity, it is well worth it not to have brought a child into the world that we have made.

One of the posters I made for rallies has an angry picture of Nixon, and says, "Looking Down from Hell in Disgust." I had several people ask me if I meant "looking up" I asked them where hell is? None could answer beyond, "I don't know."

(77,560 posts)lives in Europe, with her husband and baby daughter. I am thinking my younger daughter will move there soon, and take a teaching position. It's kind of the opposite of when my grandfather's sisters and aunts came here from Ireland. I tell people here about that European country's investment in health care, families, and education.

I always held the highest values, and acted accordingly, even in tough situations, +/- 1 dB, as they say, because nobody's perfect.
One boss of mine went pretty nonlinear, so I decided to quit. I did so on "Take your kid to work" day, showing her how to leave things in good order, and to enforce limits. In this case, on micromanagement.

(2,890 posts)Likewise grateful that I produced no children that I know of....
although a son would be helpful now....
EDIT: Ok, that was stupid---- a daughter might be just as helpful---
and possibly even more nurturing to garden plants
Sorry, stupid oldman remarks.... I do regret not having produced a child of any sex,
especially as I age

(53,408 posts)I chose not to have kids when I was 12 and chose to have dogs instead. 8 years ago my doctor said I'd probably be dead within 7 years. It's strange but I was sort of counting on it. I made plans and preparations and was very happy I wouldn't have to live in tRump-World. I only wanted my little dog to be healthy and happy and not die before she did (she was very, very attached to me...true love). Now, I am still alive and it SUCKS!!! I will be bankrupted due to healthcare costs and then I will die...this is and has been the MAGA plan all along. Bankrupt then kill us. Woohoo!
I am down to 82 pounds due to tRump stress. My primary care doctor is a Dem and he understands. When I carry a protest sign a strong gust of wind blows me away.
Justice matters.

(441 posts)My sister-in-law is a lifelong Republican, fortunately a never Trumper, and says she fears for her grand kids, especially her granddaughters. As a baby boomer, I have seen this country go through some bad times, but it seems that we are now in a death spiral. Unfortunately, I don't see any sign of hope on the horizon. Sorry to be gloomy, but I have to be honest,
Thank goodness for the DUers here who continue to fight the good fight. You're the best among us.
