The technofascists think they have us. Nothing could be further from the truth. They will NOT take our country from us. They will not estrange us from its laws nor its rights. They will yield to the people. There are more of us, and we WILL be heard.

Joy
Wild, reckless and untamed
The kind of joy that dances barefoot on the graves of tyrants
The kind that sings in the streets while the oppressor tightens his grip
The kind that laughs in the face of power because it knows something power does not
That freedom is not won through fear, but through the refusal to be afraid
....
Defiance 'til Death

(19,641 posts)Is amplified and broadcast by one million, ten million, a hundred million US citizens who are in the streets demanding an end to the trump regime - nothing changes. Sorry but this is the truth.

(19,641 posts)Overcome fascist and/or authoritarian regimes?
Think back to Marcos and Corazon Aquino's people power. Ukrains orange revolution. I'm really sorry but you guys are pissing around as if it will all be OK come the next election.a
Twenty five recs on social media is not a movement. It's about a millioneth of the resistance required to even move the needle against these guys. I don't like it any more than you do, even though I'm literally half a world away.
I'm looking at the fragility of a democratic society which, in essence requires people to DO THE RIGHT THING. Act with integrity and good faith Instead you have a cabal of liars, cheats, swindlers, unbalanced people, partisans - everything bad is now the daily way of life in the US.
The US is pissing around with hundreds of protests when what it really needs is millions of folk to take to the street and take it right up to these fascist bastards. No keyboard warriors, no videos, no podcasts. Get out there and fucking MARCH.

(128,759 posts)That is how large groups of people have always built or re-built things. Have a vision. Share it and believe it and share it again. It will take all manner of fighting (Churchill: " We shall fight in France and on the seas and oceans; we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air. We shall defend our island whatever the cost may be; we shall fight on beaches, landing grounds, in fields, in streets and on the hills. We shall never surrender " . We fight everywhere. Not just marches.
25 recs is not bad in the middle of the night when the discussion forums are quiet.

(19,641 posts)With having a vision, building or rebuilding. However the US is not wartime Britain and I doubt that a great percentage of folk, immersed as they are in the soporific glow of social media, are prepared to admit, even to themselves exactly how much danger they are in.
This is not a fight for idealists and dreamers although there a place for them will be found. This is a fight for gritty realists, lovers of justice, the tough, the determined and the brave.
Fighting does not mean social media posts or videos. You're preaching to the converted. It's nothing more than a media churn of monetising YouTube channels. Personally, I'm sick to death of everyone who sets up a channel for political opinions and wastes half an hour to impart one minute of relevant information.
It's hypnosis by media, where the subjugated really believe they have a say in events but they do not. I'm sorry this is happening, but it will take REAL action to effect change.

(128,759 posts)spoof of Trump twice a week, using ALLCAPS even if Trump no longer does in his truthsocial posts. It is social media and it is effective. You can tell it is working because of the right wing trolls who get on and try and argue the opposite and post a photo of Charlie Kirk getting shot like a troll did tonight to try and stop a "I will not longer be able to afford my Healthcare and I will die" thread.

(19,641 posts)Differently. I used the internet from the early days and wondered even them how misinformation would affect the mindset of people. I'm cynincal with good reason.
Nothing wrong with Gavin's trolling but in itself, it's a very small thing in opposing trump.

(12,055 posts)Hope is the life's blood of resistance, just as lies are the life's blood of authoritarians/totalitarians.
Hope is essential. And connecting with others to create a feedback loop of hope and action is INCREDIBLY powerful. When we connect with others in action, any action, we see more of what others are doing, and that feeds greater hope, which inspires the will to greater action.
Yes, marching is ONE type of action, but there are thousands of other acts. Lobbying our electeds to stand up for us. Connecting with others to set up meetings with your electeds. Lobbying state legislatures to issue declarations of condemnation. Lobbying anti-regime members of the U.S. Senate and U.S. House to get their acts together and issue a new Declaration of Independence listing the usurpations and abuses to "Let facts be submitted to a candid world."
I don't know if you are saying this, but frankly, I am sick to death of declarations that "we need a movement" or people bemoaning the fact that they don't "see the movement we need."
Screw needing a "movement."
We each just need to find a way to move! Find a way to connect to other people who are "moving," and bring our creativity, hope, and energy to bolster the action.
Crowds are just ONE of the C's. Find joy in the fact that so many people are demonstrating the other C's every single day: Creativity, Commitment, Connection, Community, Collaboration, Conversations, and Communications operations.
Job Number 1 is inspiring each other with what we are doing, or efforts we're supporting.
Some of that is happening online. The protests are being organized online. Here on DU we can do a lot more organizing for REAL WORLD events. Way back when, I became friends with other DUers in the real world when we lobbied Congress for an objection to the Ohio electors in early January 2005, when we lobbied to Filibuster Alito, when some fellow DU Howard Dean supporters meet up at Dean Fest in MA before those later events. That DIY spirit of the Dean campaign gave rise to the Netroots -- real people collaborating and finding creative ways to be inspired and be heard.
Ariella Elm's round up of "wins" and things happening often has things that any of us can emulate or get involved in.
And we all have different skills to bring to the table. The lawsuits are SO so important. Lobbying members of the U.S. Congress to file amicus briefs is important. Working locally to stop the sale of public lands. Or growing food for a food bank, if that is your skill, creates real world connections.
People who live in red places are up against enormous forces against them, pushing them into hopelessness and feeling so alone. But, however red the area, NO ONE is alone in this. And you don't need an enormous crowd in front a rural town hall. Even a small group demonstrates to others they are not alone. And the numbers across this country -- everywhere -- are growing with every protest. And the presence of small crowds in out-of-the-way places is as important, if not MORE important, than mass rallies in big cities. We aren't hearing much about this because coverage is limited to local outlets, but it is happening.
Because MAGA has done such a great job of weaponizing social media, there is a lot of emphasis on boosting our presence there. And there is validity is striving to get louder in those spaces. But that cannot be to the exclusion of engagement in the real world -- real world connections, real world conversations. Groups like Braver Angels and Living Room Conversations are also doing essential work.
And then there is that last C, Cash. Creating our own feedback loop of hope and action is essential, but so to is finding endeavors that would benefit from our monetary support, even if all we can give is a few dollars. Personally, I think state democratic parties in red states are getting more creative and are in desperate need of support.
YMMV.
I think my response below echoes this.
