and if that name sounds familiar, he was one of the reps who were expelled for bullshit reasons, before they were reinstated: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-65216667

Good to see he continues to do good work.

It seems to me.
That's just my opinion.
He probably should consult a lawyer if he wants to SAY THAT.

NY Times:

“Mr. Bushart’s BAIL had been set at $2 MILLION.”

So not released and charges dropped; but out on bail.
And a TWO MILLION DOLLAR bail??? For a post on Facebook??

That’s what you give to someone charged with ACTUAL MURDER!

- What was given to an Ohio man who killed his GF’s 5-month old!
- What a Wisconsin man charged with the street murder of a Canadian tourist got!
- What a Connecticut man got for bludgeoning his mother to death - and admitted it to police!

Fun fact: It’s also the bail amount given to Reich-wing poster boy - Kyle Rittenhouse.

You are right that the bail amount was extraordinary, especially in comparison with the charges of those others.

Just like Trump’s election made the racists bolder, the previously closeted fascists now feel free to stomp our rights.

It’s alarming that they can disrupt someone’s life this much on charges that I’m sure they knew they’d eventually have to drop. You don’t need convictions to chill speech. Fear of arrest is enough for many of us. There remains civil rights remedies, but I’m curious if the Federal Government and Red States will start ignoring judgments for civil rights violations or if the hurdles will get higher. It certainly wasn’t perfect before, but I’m not sure how effective the checks and balances our legal system will continue to provide. How brazen will state actors become? How far will SCOTUS take the presumption of constitutionality of state actions? Hopefully, people wake up enough that we can scare some sense into our institutions’ representatives by way of popular opinion and votes.
