Another possible explanation of why Trump is now supporting the release of the Epstein Files:

AG Bondi (giving cover yet again) is going to state the DOJ is investigating Democrats, so the files can't be released. (DOJ policy, not law).

Trump will say, "I told them to go ahead and release it, so I am not covering anything up and support transparency.

BULL SHIT!

Remember that the files came from Epstein's estate. They have been releasing selected files for some time. The estate will provide a backdrop of accuracy that the DOJ can't delete. So if they alter or destroy evidence, the estate will counter that action. IOW, deleting or altering the files will end up being a bigger headache for Diddling Donny. Epstein's lawyers know that they're dealing with Donny, a career criminal and consummate liar. So they protected the estate by spreading copies of their files in many secure locations.

Rumor has it that Epstein was pretty heated after tRump went behind his back and bought that FL mansion he’d told tRump he was planning to buy (and then turned around and sold it to a Russian oligarch for more than double what he paid - tens of MILLIONS more - and then said oligarch had it bulldozed to the ground to complete the money laundering cycle). After that, Epstein said some very critical things to and about Little Baby Thunderpants and his duplicity, and this hurt Baby’s fragile feefees. And if you hurt Baby’s feefees - even if he totally deserves the criticism - he goes nuclear.

In this case, nuclear means dropping a dime on Epstein about his trafficking operations. Epstein himself believed it was tRump who ratted him out.

Always. He can’t stand losing.

When the wheel stops he hollers and stamps his tiny porcine swollen hooves about how he won. Ignoring and stiffing all of the other bets he made on the spin. He’s successfully used this strategy to bankrupt casinos, cities, a superpower, and soon the world, if he’s allowed to.

Of course, this strategy only works if you are “the house”.

That is why I think it is unlikely Trump and his goons will be able to doctor it. Too many documents that can be cross-checked with other sources (victims that are still alive, former prosecutors and investigators, Epstein estate , etc..)

If he supported releasing the files, he would just go ahead and release them. The discharge petition/legislation exists only because he refuses to release them on his own. He has full authority to telease them completely on his own at any time. He's telling people to vote for it because he knows it's going to pass and he can't stand to be on the losing side of something. If he really was ok with the files being released, he wouldn't have brought Lauren Boebert into THE SITUATION ROOM! to pressure her to remove her signature. Nor would he have rescinded his support for Marjorie Taylor Greene less 24 hours earlier because of her position on this.

They've now had plenty of time to review the docs with a fine toothed comb.

Unless they were previously marked with an ID, so they can identify missing material, they would then have the freedom to cover it all up by destroying the good stuff.

I'm guessing that Trump was finally given the OK to proceed once the data was destroyed.

Makes perfect sense to me.

He's buying time. The discharge petition just allows the House to vote on it, then send it to the Senate for a vote, and then to him, and then he can veto it for any reason he might blow out his ass at the time. Maybe the veto could be overridden, but while the process plays out he can buy time to throw out enough chaff or squid ink or wars in Venezuela or whatever to try to make the scandal fade away. I don't think the files will be destroyed because by there is already too much stuff in too many different places, stored on paper and electronically. If they do disappear that would be as big a scandal as the file contents themselves (see also Nixon's 18-1/2 Minutes).

I would imagine that there’s too many people that have seen the files that would know if they’ve been doctored. For me I think it’s the OP’s theory or that he’s been told by key Republicans that the votes are there to release them anyhow so he needs to look like he’s still in charge of the party.
