Members of the House of Representatives are quitting Congress at a record rate, with Republican retirements and resignations outpacing Democrats by a nearly 2-to-1 ratio in the first 11 months of the year, Axios reports.
In previous cycles, the party with more departures tends to lose seats if not the majority.

(59,526 posts)They wont just pick up and disappear from one day to the next. Not enough of them. It would take ten immediate Republican vacancies in the House for Jeffries to be able become Speaker. The departing Republicans know this. Most of them will try to time their departures so that Johnson can hang on. Their disappointment with their own party does not extend to handing us the House.
