there is so much out there now. witness statements who saw first hand what happened. some of the victims are speaking out. the limo driver identified himself. so much. ..... in spite of their efforts, his name is in there. and lots of other people.
i just gotta ask,..... how is this going to evolve into some kind of action? are we expecting Congress to have hearings? should we expect to see some of the other people involved (and don't have presidential immunity) will be facing legal action?
some people are saying that in spite of the horrific stories in the files, that nothing will come of it.
I'm just looking for a plausible way that this is going to evolve in some course of action. I mean there isn't a chance that all this info and evidence is going to be out there for us all to read and know about and no one is even going to try to do anything about it, right?
i'm sure there are hundreds of people in the press going through every page, everything lining up all the smoking guns, hoping to be the next woodward and bernstein..... but even if they do that, either Congress or some prosecutors have to actually do something, right?
I realize it's early and the files just came out. and I'm willing to wait. I'm just looking for plausible ways this could play out moving forward that involve some kind of justice for the victims and our country.
it almost feels like there is SO much evidence now, and the american people are desensitized and jaded from all the failed attempts to do something.
surely there are some prosecutors and people in congress going over all this stuff now and it's just a matter of time before some charges are filed, or congress has hearings, or SOMETHING.... right?

(1,329 posts)There's no path that must be taken based on what's been released so far. Especially with things being released without context, it's hard to know how any given thing has been investigated.
It's a giant jigsaw puzzle and we have a bunch of pieces, including some that aren't relevant to the outcome. Take the pictures of random celebrities or politicians at an Epstein event. That doesn't say anything about if they abused kids.
I think the most probable next step will be moving forward judicially to get the full files released. But then still it will take a long time to sort through. You'd need forensic accountants, flight logs, etc to make a case against anyone.

(2,633 posts)Of any and all evidence I seriously doubt that t-rump will ever pay any price for any of it, the amount of time it will take toget things together and actually charge him any time soon is just too much...Thye have proven many times that they won't charge a sitting president with any crimes at all for starters. That gives hi 3 more years before anything will happen, I seriously doubt that he will live that long and if he does he may very well be incompetent to stand trial, even if he is considered well enough to stand trial he will be free, or restricted to one of his homes, I really doubt they will ever go that far but can hope...In the end he most likely will never even be charged...

(8,851 posts)However, overwhelming evidence comes out against some of the co-conspirators, I can see Trump's DOJ having no choice but to press charges. However, I wouldn't count on them mounting a real vigorous prosecution against any Republican donors.

There has been some fallout for Larry Summers and even more for Prince Andrew as well.

(11,380 posts)All these people (thousands of them, and not just direct victims) have a piece of the puzzle.
In order to put the whole thing together, we need all the pieces on the same floor, as many as we can get.
We need to build a way. Find a conference center, find a way to rent it out for the summer or whatever, and anyone who wants their piece fitted, can come and do that. Lock it down and keep the press OUT, put some dedicated lawyers in there with them so everything's (technically) Privileged, and when it's done THEN release picture we have.
Yes, I understand that is slightly more complex than that in reality, but if we want the Whole Truth of this, we are gonna have to do it ourselves, because this government IS NOT GONNA GIVE IT TO US.

(37,366 posts)Finance and political power in the US and frankly the world for the past fifty years.
The release of the files documents the sh*t that was allowed and encouraged to happen as the very institutions established and trusted by the people to guard against these very abuses looked the other way. Most of the players are irrelevant, dead, or soon to be.
What officially will happen? I dont know. Hopefully, the system will be altered to prevent these sorts of nightmares in the future.
On the local and personal level much could be done if everyday good people take note of the people and types of personalities revealed in the documents and they learn to have nothing to do with them. Nothing. Dont give them power, money, and attention.

(31,590 posts)Trump could finally be impeached and convicted ( removed ), but even if they found a video tape of Trump forcibly raping a 12 year old, I would not be a bit surprised if the Senate did not vote to convict.
There could be a lot of civil actions, but then there was the Epstein victim's fund already set up.
There was the case of at least one girl who died by suicide ( not Virginia, a girl from Oklahoma ) via gun shot. Ruled a suicide but there have been rumors that it was murder. That might lead to something... but the case is pretty cold now.
A lot of men that participated may withdraw from public life... like Larry Summers and Prince Andrew ( now just Andrew Mountbatten ) possibly some very rich men.
Over a thousand girls were victims... we have only heard from maybe 100 or so... I do wonder about the other 900, a lot from Eastern Europe and Russia, what happened to them? were they trafficked to Epstein ( and Trump ) via Russian mobsters... did they survive? Or will this be like the movie "Taken" only instead of Albanian kidnappers and Arab oil sheikhs... was it Russian mobsters and rich American / European men?
Mostly you discount such stories like "Eyes Wide Shut" and "Taken"... but perhaps they are not that far from the truth.
