ICE detains five-year-old Minnesota boy arriving home, say school officials

Superintendent says Liam Ramos and his father were taken into custody while in their driveway and sent to Texas
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detained a five-year-old Minnesota boy on Tuesday as he returned home from school and transported him and his father to a Texas detention center, according to school officials.

Liam Ramos, a preschooler, and his father were taken into custody while in their driveway, the superintendent of the school district in Columbia Heights, a Minneapolis suburb, said at a press conference on Wednesday. Liam, who had recently turned five, is one of four children in the school district who have been detained by federal immigration agents during the Trump administration’s enforcement surge in the region over the last two weeks, the district said.

It was the boy AND his father. This is a 'clickbait' title.

The media is never going to be take seriously if they keep doing this.

Stenvik said another adult living in the home was outside during the encounter and had pleaded to take care of Liam so the boy could avoid detention, but was denied. Liam’s older brother, a middle schooler, came home 20 minutes later to find his father and brother missing, Stenvik said. Two school principals from the district also arrived at the home to offer support.

So there was no need to send that child to Texas.

None.

What is wrong with you?

But, why only mention the boy in the title? The part that is first to be seen by everyone and informs us as to what the story is about. Why do that?

That was the media drawing you in by insinuating that they 'only' took a boy, so that you will rush to read the article, and even click on the little thing that allows them to access your machine in your haste to find out why they grabbed a solitary little boy off of the street.

The fact that they are taking anyone is inexcusable.

I never said a thing about what they did. Just that the media, once again, has done a disservice to the situation by sensationalizing the title of their article. By doing this, they trivialize the situation and make it more about getting clicks than informing us of what is going on. By not calling them out on it, we allow them the freedom to start twisting facts or even making shit up in the name of revenue.

I am sorry that I was not more clear about this.

There was an Hispanic family living across the hall from us. The apartment was usually filled with the sounds of a happy family: singing, yelling, kids running around. They had two girls and a tiny boy. Five people in a one bedroom. But, they were making it work. I would run into them on occasion. We were just to the point where they would speak and I would as well. The girls would always wave and we would wave back. Nice people.

I have not seen or heard anything from that apartment in two weeks now. The Christmas decoration on the door is still up as is the holiday welcome mat.

You think I am not FUCKING MAD AS HELL about that? I did not even get the chance to be there for them. To offer help or at least a place for their kids to be while that SHIT was going down. I was not able to help my own neighbor. A family with small children. I might've been of use. I was not.

They are just gone.

You want to know what is wrong with me? I am beyond caring about a system that allows this shit to happen. One that allows rich people carte blanche to be deprived and soulless and never suffer a consequence for it. That orange gibbon's rise to power was not a fluke. It was the end result of the tweaking and corrupting that they did to every aspect of our society just to allow such an outcome.

Can I do something about it? Probably not with this screwed up body. I can get in the way by collapsing in front of them, that's about it.

But, I am willing to do it. It is that, or die a useless coward.

That does not appeal to me.
