Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsHave you ever had actual contact with a President OR Vice President (UPDATE)
UPDATE: I almost forgot that we took all 3 kids to see Jesse Jackson. Our 2 daughters got their picture standing next to him in the morning paper the next day. It might take a few days. I'll see if I can find the picture.
I met Senator Biden as he was preparing to run for President at a book signing. Obama won. I lost the photo over the years. I still have the Autograph.

I was at a rally for Obama. It was the primary. I did see him in person.
I met the first Gentleman Doug Emhoff 2 years ago.

Marta and I saw lame duck (a few weeks after the 2000 election day) Clinton. It was a cold day, but the crowd outside was happy to see him. We still didn't know who the next President would be at the time.
We were at a protest when Raygun drove by and waved. We served soup to homeless people.

(71,905 posts)He was a good speaker; not spectacular. On a side note, I was struck by how cheap-looking his navy blazer was. He's pretty wealthy. I would have thought he could have afforded better. But it's possible he wanted something that could stand up to the rigors of campaigning.

(150,910 posts)Also, said "Good Morning, Mr. President" to Richard M. Nixon in 1969. I was in my USAF uniform and he was in the NSA building to observe an exercise. He came up behind me at the position I was staffing. I did as I was earlier told and greeted him. Left to my own devices, I would have said something different.
Those are my two presidential encounters.

(4,553 posts)I had some momentary contacts with him at events, and know people who worked for him. And there was another forgettable indiana vp I've met but can barely recall!

(12,567 posts)I've met him in social settings, not political (church, games, UD) and we have some mutual friends.

(10,796 posts)I was a few feet away from LBJ when he came to Paramus NJ to campaign at the Garden State Plaza in 1964 and shook hands with Bill Clinton when he campaigned at a diner in Bergen County NJ in 1992. Clinton had so much makeup on that he was almost unrecognizable.

(809 posts)Clinton carried Tennessee that year. Al Gore lost Tennessee in his presidential bid against Bush. Gore is a native Tennessean . Shows you how dumb the voters in Tennessee are and it keeps getting worse,

(44,454 posts)Neither of them were in office when I interacted with them.
I shook Clinton's hand at a Hillary event in 2016, after standing front row in a speech he gave.
I said hello to Biden around 2005 or so, when he was headlining the speech of an event I was volunteering for. I was heading towards the restroom between speeches and he and some of his handlers were passing by and I said hello and he said hello back.
I also shook Hillary's hand in 2016.

He was still a State Senator at the time.
Not sure if that counts.

(59,898 posts)Starting with LBJ in 1965. From then to 2015, a few more. Even a few Republicans (Bush, Sr. while he was still a Congressman from TX, and then Ford & Rockefeller in DC in 1975 while in office, though my dad knew them both from way before).
Otherwise, among Democrats:
Lyndon Johnson
Hubert Humphrey
Walter Mondale
Bill Clinton
Al Gore
Barack Obama (as Senator and then as President)
Joe Biden (in Denver, 2008, as VP nominee)
I sat a few feet from Jimmy Carter while he was President, but never actually met him.

(177,051 posts)I went to a couple of fundraisers for President Biden in 2019. At one fundraiser, President Biden signed three floor speech signs (these were the signs that were passed out during President Biden's speech at the 2016 National Convention). President Biden signed one floor speech sign with "Keep the Faith." At this event, President Biden took my Iphone from me and took some great pictures. President Biden is really good at taking selfies.
At another fundraiser I got to discuss stuttering with President Biden in the photo line. President Biden told me about the 20 or so young stutterers he keeps in contact. After we discussed stuttering, I got a Biden hug.
I also have a selfie with Hillary Clinton and was a delegate to the 2016 national convention. Congressman Al Green introduced me to Hillary Clinton as his attorney (Al was referring to my work on voter protection efforts) and took the picture of Hilary Clinton and me in a rope line. I used that picture in my campaign to be a Clinton delegate to the 2016 Convention.

(64,624 posts)We met Obama after several speeches - maybe even had the shortest Q&A with him ever
Me: Fairness Doctrine?
O: No
We ate lunch with Michelle one hot July day when others failed to show up - one of my best memories ever.
We had friends who had a bed and breakfast. Politicians always stayed there when they were in the neighborhood. That included Hillary and Joe Biden.
I could go through a long list. Those were some of the highlights.
We would also go to Republican events. Those were weird, really weird. Always started with a prayer - felt spooky. Romney flaunted his wealth to a sickening degree.
