The Trump administration kicked a hornet's nest this month when officials moved to change health coverage rules for veterans' benefits in a way that would potentially roll back disability status from thousands of retired servicemembers and now they're trying to walk back that policy change.
However, prominent lawmakers and veterans' groups were not persuaded by the new update.
The rule change, which was proposed by right-wing think tanks during the 2024 election, would change the rules around disability ratings so that if the symptoms are well-managed on medication, the disability is downgraded. It was a direct move to reverse Jones v. Shinseki, "a 2012 ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims that held that the VA could not factor in medication's benefits unless the specific rating criteria for that condition mentioned medication," reported Military.com.

Again, I ask why do veterans keeps voting for maga.............have you not figured it out yet .............your tax dollars go into the VA.............. every citizen in this country pays taxes for the agency and others for your service........you pay property taxes for a reason...........JFC............they want to take your tax dollars and give them to someone who doesn't pay taxes ...............or they find loopholes to not pay and you have to pay more and they want to cut everyone's earned benefits.............

Support of military veterans is one of the prime lefty principles and should be loudly so touted.

(3,956 posts)First, everyone deserves adequate health care.
But why is this one job that if you hold for just a couple of years you qualify for health care forever in the United States?
I was a school teacher for 20 years and I get absolutely nothing for that service.
My sister was in the army for 3 years and gets VA health services.

(24,335 posts)And it's not free. There are co-payments for about everything.
During my service time, my peers were making about 10X what I was making.
Many years later, I worked on professional staff for a university and got a pension for my 7 years there.
And I make it a firm practice not to be jealous of anyone for anything, and to be at peace with the choices I made.
(They were good ones)
