The AI thing has been one explanation I've heard as well, but in practice that's not how it works...
AFAIK AI is used as a secondary confirmation. It is, after all, flawed and the navy knows this. The real question is
who provided the navy with the baseline coordinates to be double checked by "AI" (if indeed that isn't just bullshit)? It is known that allies will share coordinate data. Was the targeting data US sourced - or did it come from a third party. The NYT did a piece on this and if IIRC, the compound where the girl's school was had been formerly military - but it (the school) was separated out and walled off about 10 years ago (2016). Hence this was inexcusably old data. What state in the region would maintain the latest targeting data? What state has already been guilty of bombing elementary schools of the enemy and has repeatedly said "Oops!"? There are very disturbing elements of this whole story that are not being investigated.

I also can't find the article at the moment, but a source i considered reputable reported that satellite images from 2018 or so clearly showed that it had been walled off from the compound -- and included a visible play area.
