Mahamad Safa, formerly the permanent representative to the United Nations for a major human rights organization, resigned from his diplomatic positions on Friday to leak a dramatic claim, along with a desperate plea to the United States and elsewhere.
His post on On X. I did not include the photo of Tehran he included in his post.

@mhdksafa
I don't think people understand the gravity of the situation as the UN is preparing for possible nuclear weapon use in Iran.
This is a picture of Tehran. For you uneducated, untraveled, never-served, warhawks licking your chops at the thought of bombing it. It's not some low population desert. There are families, children, family pets. Regular working class people with dreams. You're sick to want war.
Tehran is a city of nearly 10,000,000 people. Imagine nuking Washington, Berlin, Paris, London, or beyond, bombed with nuclear weapons.
I gave up my diplomatic career to leak this information. I suspended my duties so as not to be part of or a witness to this crime against humanity, in an attempt to prevent a nuclear winter before it is too late.
Yesterday, nearly ten million people protested No Kings in the United States. The possibility of the use of nuclear weapons must be taken very seriously. It's dangerous. Act now. Spread this message worldwide. Take the streets. Protest for our humanity and future. Only the people can stop it. History will remember us.

(4,251 posts)The WHO, part of the UN system, has started preparing for radiation-related risks.
But I understand where this man is coming from. If the threat has moved from the unthinkable to the possible, then, where the hell is the UN in denouncing this madness?? We know it's a toothless institution now but at least make an effort for Gawds's sake!!

(4,251 posts)Clearly. Second, even if it wanted to drop nukes in a fit of psychosis or whatever, the UN has no nukes.
Or... does it?
In a bit of twisted thinking - maybe then it could actually fulfill it's mandate!
Having served in the military as an officer and subsequently working with the military as a foreign service officer for 27 years, I am certain that our military chain of command would disobey a first-strike nuclear attack unless we were also being attacked with nuclear weapons.

(15,385 posts)My late FIL used to train Minuteman silo duty officers in the 1970's/1980's.
It was understood that policy on all sides was never to initiate first strike, that it would mean the end of whichever country did "shoot first".
I doubt even with the Focus on the Family takeover of the Air Force that the majority of the Military involved with nukes would be willing to be the one to start Armeggeddon. There are still protocols in place to keep a delusional paranoid or narcissist jackoff that goes through a mental breakdown to push the button.
That being said, Kegsbreath is a F'ing insane, deluded drunk (I doubt he's a dry drunk anymore) in a position of power way out of his mental or emotional capabilities.
I could only hope the cadre of uniformed yes-men and oafkeepers he's surrounded himself with have half a brain to go along with their political greed.

(25,224 posts)Trump's a copy-cat.
He issued the order, explicitly or implicitly, for a double-tap school bombing on the order of the bombing of Dresden or the incendiary bombing of Japanese cardboard homes, without batting an eyelash, or perhaps, some glee.

Yes, MY LAI.
In his imitation of Democrats (or the reversal of their policies and actions) he is up against the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bomb drops AND WON'T BE OUTDONE.
"Only the people can stop it."
One person can stop it. By doing the right thing.

Trump DESPISES such beings. He rapes them.

(79,037 posts)There have been a number of retired military/intelligence people on a variety of pod casts saying that there is a growing chance that Netanyahu may resort to this option. They are able to identify the three targets that Israel has had for "emergencies" involving Iran that have been in place for many years.

(141,569 posts)He's that insane.
The felon has asked why have nukes if you never use them, and suggested them for hurrican control. He loves explosions. And at this point in time, Netanyahu has the lead in being this era's worst war criminal. The felon has a compulsive (and repulsive) need to be at least tied for first in everything.

(9,290 posts)If this is an emergency situation, and it certainly can turn into one, where is the urgency in the halls of power.

(79,037 posts)them say they have been in contact with a number of former co-workers and members of Congress. Even the majority of maga in DC recognize this war is a terrible mistake, and that we are heading into a much worse situation. However, they do not dare publicly disagree with the felon-in-chief. The republicans aren't going to hold press conferences to address this honestly. And the corporate media is obeying the implied censorship from the administration, or the direct censorship in Israel. Hence, I think these pod casts, while clearly not the only thing being done, is an essential form of educating the public. I think that an increasing number of people recognize that pod casts frequently provide more accurate information than the regular media.
As a result, it is essential that we have accurate information when we contact our elected representatives. That is what we really need more of.

(79,037 posts)I am under the impression that the president isn't exactly "hands on" in determaning any strategy in the war. He reportedly favors watching video clips of bombs blowing things up. Netanyahu knows how to play him, and might let him know as it unfolds, but does not think there is any need to get his approval first. Thus, the president will tell what he believes to be lies, no matter what.
Perhaps the bombing of the Iranian gas field you reference is the perfect example for our consideration. It escalated the violence to a higher level, that poses much greater risks of leading to the use of nukes.

If you could change that to

If he launches a nuke the world at large will join forces and do something about it. Netenyahu won't because he knows Israel will cease to exist as a free state, but Diaper Donny thinks the world respects him. He doesn't care who dies.

(31,902 posts)is about the use of a small tactical nuke on a certain mountain in Iran.
One that has tunnels 500 meters below the surface where, it is claimed, that Iran has stored 2/3rds of its remaining missiles and, possibly, some scuba tank sized containers of enriched uranium.
The idea is to create enough of a shock wave to kill any people inside, and create conditions at the surface to make it difficult to enter the mountain and retrieve the uranium or remaining ballistic missiles.
the bunker buster conventional weapons cannot reach the underground tunnels and rooms.
even if a nuke is used, the effectiveness is likely unknown.
But I'm sure Donny wants to try it... not to mention the psychopath Kegsbreath.

(326 posts)If the US strikes Iran's nuclear power facilities with conventional explosive munitions, the meltdowns of those facilities and the ensuing dispersal of radioactive dust will make huge areas of the country uninhabitable in addition to the mass casualties. The consequences of this will last for years. Millions of people will be displaced destabilizing the entire region with additional damage to global economies likened to a Great Depression. America will have become a pariah nation and tried before The Hague to make reparations and pay for crimes against humanity. I hope Trump (and Netanyahu) are stopped before it gets this bad. But a "worse case scenario" must now be planned for because something so "unthinkable" is well within their amoral minds if they become more like cornered rats with no other options than mass destruction.
