(3,109 posts)VT was a deep red state till Bernie sanders ran there. It still has appeal to Republicans

(93,892 posts)It's about things like demographic changes and how those things also changed thec parties.
We use to have very conservative democrsts and liberal Republicans.

(3,109 posts)And neither is any State.
Nothing is really set in stone.
We are nearing another massive 70s-90s style realignment and I think the "red" and "blue" state perception is largely the result of parties being unable to adapt when these realignments happen. Ideology and culture definitely makes it impossible for some parties to win in the traditional way in many places. But not in other ways.

(29,976 posts)Do you know how to left you have to be to win as a Republican in Vermont? He's not far left but it is fair to consider him a liberal Republican. It wasn't always that way meaning being a blue state. Up until Bush or Clinton Vermont mostly voted for Republican for President which is why it surprised national media a Democratic Socialist won in Burlington in the 80s.

It's why national elections are closer and Republicans will never be able to win as Reagan did.

(2,152 posts)We must get more people to vote! Like I complained here a couple of days ago, the most liberal county in Nebraska had a 28 % turn out this primary where we are trying to unseat Ricketts, Fisher, Flood, and Pillen, wtaf?

(13,648 posts)(as they are everywhere), and many independents who took a flyer on the Pedo in 2024 have extreme buyers remorse (as they do everywhere).
I am never terribly confident leading up to elections, but Id say we do have a reasonable chance of doing well this cycle. The fact that the current SoS and Asst. SoS are (though conservative) not crooks makes a favorable outcome more likely.
All that said, were all on guard for Repukes to pull whatever bullshit they think they can get away with. So glad I voted early, because I didnt want to have to worry about election day violence and intimidation tactics.

(2,890 posts)but I'd be willing to bet a good number of Republicans and non partisan are also for Dems. Keep 'em coming.

I'm grateful for every vote for democrats or left leaning independents and hope a good chunk more turn out. That goes for every state.
