https://www.nytimes.com/live/2026/06/17/world/g7-summit-trump-franceAfter G7 Leaders Praise U.S.-Iran Deal, Trump Threatens Iran Again
President Trump threatened on Wednesday to resume bombing Iran if he was unhappy with the implementation of the preliminary agreement to halt hostilities, hours after world leaders at the annual Group of 7 summit hailed the deal as a breakthrough.
In remarks to reporters, Mr. Trump praised the agreement as a very strong deal that markets had welcomed, but then pivoted to escalatory language. If I dont like it, if they dont behave, well go right back to dropping bombs right smack in the middle of their head, he said.
Hours earlier, the G7 leaders issued a joint statement praising Mr. Trumps strong leadership in securing the deal with Iran, as they gathered on Wednesday for the second full day of the summit in Évian-les-Bains, France.
In his remarks later, Mr. Trump appeared to say that no one knows what the deal, the terms of which have not been published, entails. Nobody knows what it is, but its very strong. Most people seem to be very happy, he said, adding: Whos really happy is the market.

(61,204 posts)The more they praise him, the more likely the war ends. I would imagine that the countries who were in the JCPOA are likely concerned that he is giving away many of the "carrots" in this phase including allowing the unfettered sale of Iranian oil, allowing access to some of their frozen assets and the removal of sanctions.
One question I have is that President Obama kept in place sanctions placed for reasons nor related to pursuing a nuclear weapon. These included sanctions because of their support of Hezbollah, Hamas and the Houthies.
Yesterday, Trump was speaking of preferring Syria to go after Hezbollah if the Israelis are too brutal. Syria 's leaders are the former rebels allied with AQ. They have enough problems stabilizing Syria and this is an incredibly bad idea
Trump's two terms have enabled the right wing in Israel to take steps that will, in and of themselves, change their part of the Middle East. In the process, they may end a democratic Jewish state with rights for all.
This latest war may have made Iran more powerful in the region, even as many of its leaders were killed and they suffered a lot of bombing damage. It is very confusing to think how all of this plays out with the other Arab states. I wonder how much US prestige has suffered.

A $300 billion reparation fund, paid for by the US and its regional partners.
All Iran has to do it "reiterate" (literally a word in the agreement) their own positions from the JCPOA.
Incredible.

(6,707 posts)once in his entire life. Every deal has to be renegotiated repeatedly, then he decides he doesn't like it and reneges anyway.
He'll die the most untrusted person ever. The name Trump will go down in history as a name you cannot trust.

More likely this has more to do with the middle of Trumps head -- which means he pulled it out of his ass.

(900 posts)Everyone is sick of his stupid war, the market is being held up by an AI bubble, and Trump just accelerated the transition to renewables by about 5 years with this Iran Conflict. The U.S. needs this to end, so Trump is not doing s*** other than get whatever agreement Iran wants done if it gets any restriction on their nuclear program.

(109,535 posts)John Oliver was talking about how Elon was attempting to meddle in the UK elections this week and he's backing his own political party called "Reform Britain" whose talking points very eerily mirror MAGA. There was also a riot in Ireland last week that was reportedly caused by Elon Musk's brand of propaganda.
If there was any further proof that Elon helped flip the 2024 election, here you go.
