This whole Reflection Pool fiasco is like some low-risk, trivial version of the Soviet Chernobyl disaster.

Obviously algae contamination is nothing remotely as serious as radioactive dust, but think about it.

It's an environmental mess that started with an unnecessary and poorly planned procedure that went terribly wrong. Rather than admit that the whole situation was caused by bad planning, the leadership in government chooses to laughably try to cover up its incompetence and doubles down on disinformation to shift the blame on everyone but themselves.

And if they can do it on small matters like this, they can do it on other things as well.

The 2019 miniseries on Chernobyl is a must-watch on the subject of truth and falsehoods in the face of disaster.

So chances are they arrested at least some bystanders for something or other.

The pool just wasn't designed to have sparkling water.

Draining and cleaning the pool is a ritual.

It's a reflection of Trump's vanity. He's so vain. He claimed he was "gonna fix it for 100 years"...LOL.....

The liner needs to be removed because animals can get to it, and birds can carry it off and use it in nests etc. But other than that it's a reflection of Trump's vanity.

There is a natural pond near me that goes beyond green in the summer. It's disgusting, but the springs dry up and it turns into a fetid mess. But it's natural. And it's on a nature trail. Yet, somehow the fish survive! Algae will always be there.

The reflecting pool just isn't a swimming pool. It has some water circulation that prevents it from becoming a stagnant pond, but that's it.

Trump's folly was that he tried to make it look like a swimming pool by using a liner, He also apparently put in an ozone purifier, to help oxygenate the water, but I have no idea if this purifier can handle a pool that size.

I think the wrecking the East Wing is a much worse environmental disaster.

…neither can you be trusted in large ones”. (From the Gospel of Luke, IIRC). An old maxim I recalled when reading your OP.

And if they can do it on small matters like this, they can do it on other things as well.

And the Trump regime can be guaranteed to cheat and grift in all matters large and small. Their governance, such as it is, can only be described as Soviet in style (particularly when it comes to the naked corruption and the “IDGAF” attitude toward even the slightest pretense of covering up their crime sprees).
