ME-SEN: Local anti-Collins PAC enters fray of costly Maine U.S. Senate race

A Maine-based political action committee launched on Monday with the specific mission to defeat incumbent Republican U.S. Sen. Susan Collins and flip her seat blue.

The Very Concerned PAC, a nod to the oft-repeated critique of Collins being “very concerned” about issues but not casting votes to rectify them, is being led by an undisclosed team of Democratic strategists, working in a volunteer capacity at this time, with track records winning at various levels in Maine elections.

“Susan Collins has spent decades perfecting the art of looking concerned and voting the other way,” BJ McCollister, senior strategist for Very Concerned PAC, said in a statement on Monday. “Behind every one of those votes is a Mainer living with the consequences.”

The Maine U.S. Senate race between Collins and Democratic nominee Graham Platner, which could be consequential for the balance of power in U.S. Congress, is on track to be one of the most expensive in state history. It’s set to exceed the record $200 million spent the last time Collins sought reelection in 2020.
