Everyone should understand that Trump will not leave Office at the end of his term. He knows he will be prosecuted and he will do everything he can to subvert a democratic election. He has built his own security force, so to speak, and its going to get dicey .. It will be up to our military to actually support the Constitution and remove him from Office after his term is up.

(25,109 posts)His term expires automatically at noon on January 20 (21st?), 2029. After that, he is a private citizen and squatter and would be handled accordingly, even if the Secret Service, military, etc. would have to intervene to drag him out. If he even makes it the next 2.5 years, which IMHO is questionable at best. We need to stop entertaining these horror scenarios and feeding into his delusions. I'm not saying that things aren't dire, troubling, etc. but we need to maintain the belief that the system and the people of this country will not just let this orange toad (with a now steady +/- 30% approval rating) stay in power indefinitely.

We know he cheats and lies and had three different strategies to steal the 2020 election and still lies about it every single day, and no Republican stands up to him. He has floated the idea of being president for life. Anything less will be a loss to him. He is incapable of accepting any loss. IMO, he would rather destroy America or even the world than accept a loss. He will stop at nothing.

(11,369 posts)One - Trump does survive that long and does try something stupid to remain in power. In that scenario, the recent film "Civil War" ends with a forcible removal of a president from the White House...it would not break my heart to hear Trump was killed in a firefight at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in the least...
Two - and FAR MORE LIKELY OUTCOME - the fat piece of amphibian shit suffers a massive stroke (today would be just fine) and suffers total loss of speech and function on one side of his body. He survives the event but in a diminished capacity that makes his handlers hide him from view until he does actually die while drooling on himself and sitting in a full, soiled diaper for hours (if not days).
Seeing as either event makes it more likely I will have a destination vacation to plan so I may piss on his grave, either on is acceptable in the end.

(3,018 posts)At the end of his term, the election for the next president will be interrupted. Ice agents will begin to collect ballot boxes from flawed election states it will be impossible to determine who the winner was. As the so-called investigations go forward Trump tells the public that he must remain in office until were able to sort out the actual winner of the election . I think you could say that we have a constitutional crisis at this point . It could get messy..

(44 posts)As a parent, I always told my kids that I am cursed with something I call Horror Vision. I imagine the absolute worst scenario, whether it be in the school yard, parking lot, bike riding, heck... everywhere, and do my best to prepare. It is exhausting and rarely comes true but it keeps you sharp. In this day and age of a totally distracted and ill-informed citizenry, there could be great uncertainty, inaction, and apathy if things go sideways. We have all seen the daily assault on realty, tradition and decency. I think that this is a deliberate ploy to desensitize and divide us so we're more controllable. I am not saying anything that we all don't know already.
It is not defeatist to anticipate how far your opponent is willing to go. That should be perfectly clear by now. God forbid any of this should come to pass. Messy would be an understatement. I try not to completely distance myself from somewhat decent republicans I have in my circle. I do not hide my liberal mindset and don't shy away from vigorous debate if they're foolish enough to start one. They sometimes concede to my way of thinking. I imagine they leave thinking Oh shit. Wait a minute, I have a friend that is a Democrat?!
Naysayers always retort "OK, chicken-little, what's YOUR plan?" As if one man is going to single handedly change everything.... My plan is to be eyes fucking wide open alert. Keep my head down but keep talking to people. Remind them of what we are/were as a country. Strongly encourage people to vote. Save money but donate wisely. Arm & train myself. Prepare for the unthinkable. I can only hope that those decent people are not willing to throw everything away just for a corrupt want to be dictator. We'll see what he has to say on Thursday. It will be vile. It will be ignorant. That critical crossroad that we expected for November seems to be coming early.

(1,593 posts)the Constitution. Congress or some other civilian body would have to act and the military can refuse the orders of the now illegitimate president and back the civilian government. But, if multiple groups, let's say a southern resurgent confederate group aligned with white Christian Nationalists, and a tech bros pro data center anti everything else group, a Democratic Socialist group and so on, multiple military and intel services leaders could back different groups and instant Civil War.
That's the danger posed by one selfish greedy psycho Russia compromised asshole throwing 250 years of democracy out the window because they don't want to govern according to the Constitution but instead want to turn the US government into their personal grift and retribution machine and build alliances to protect theirself by sharing taxpayer funded contracts and other grifts with their domestic and foreign cronies.
The military can't just arrest the renegade president and impose martial law during a time period of campaigns for an election to continue constitutional governance. I'm expecting that if Trump were planning to not leave office, he would cancel 2028 elections and disband Congress so that there won't be a legit President and legislature for the military to place back into power.

(1,593 posts)who refuse to follow Trump and go against the Constitutional order? They've already fired or driven out leaders who refused to follow and issue illegal orders. White nationalists have been encouraged enlist. There will be those in the ranks who will turn weapons on fellow service members that refuse to go along with Trump's treason and there will be others looking for leadership from those who try to defend the Constitutional order. I believe that those wanting to follow the Constitution will be in the majority but if Trump tries to stay in office, there may be a contention for control possibly even a fracture. Hopefully, based on recent reports of Dan Caine not wanting to give Trump the nuclear codes, everyone will honor their oath and immediately place Trump under house arrest and arrest Vance, Rubio, and Hegseth, Patel, and Pulte.
Who will the Texas, Utah, and Montana National Guard follow? The DC Guard? Trump had Texas DOC ERT and TX NG clear Lafayette square and they were in Portland as well. He's used to putting enough loyalists in the mix to have a majority for coercive control.

Assume he got 77 million votes in 2024
His approval in January 2025 was around 50%. Today it's around 37% -- and it keeps going down
I'd guess that means maybe (0.37/0.50)*77 million = 57 million would vote for him today
The US population is around 342 million
It's not a stretch to imagine that after another year and a half, 300 million Americans will be uninterested in supporting him
Anybody, who tries to help him take over permanently, might want to look back over the shoulder constantly, whenever going from one place to another, because a lot of folk will be completely at the end of their patience by then

(53,606 posts)The Constitution is clear on this: at exactly noon on January 20 the year following the election the new president is sworn in. At exactly 12:01 on the same date, if the old one is still in the White House the 3d United States Infantry of the United States Army, the Old Guard, and the Secret Service Protective Detail are required to enter the White House armed with M240 machine guns, animal tranquilizer guns loaded with Thorazine, and one of those wheelbarrows contractors move wet cement in. As Trump will no longer be president he is not immune to this action (and wasnt immune to machine gun fire anyway) so the troops and Secret Service officers will dart him, put him in the wheelbarrow, push the wheelbarrow to the Potomac and dump him in with all the respect he deserves, which is none.
