Performance issues on DU

Another day of spinning circles and slow page loads.
I couldn't even like a post. I can read posts and am logged in.
My new computer arrives tomorrow, but is it me or an attack on us?
This started a couple days ago.

1. This is entirely due to me making configuration changes to prevent excess bot traffic

It's taking a while to get the settings dialed in correctly. We are not under attack -- well, no more than usual from automated AI scrapers which are flooding our servers with requests. That's what I'm trying to put a stop to.

Could you tell me, are you using a VPN, and are you located in a geographic region other than the US?

Edited to add: The last tweak I just made *might* have made a pretty big difference. Please let me know if you are still having performance issues.

10. I do use a VPN and am located in the US...

...and the VPN should resolve to a California location, but the main issue I've been having is constant requests to verify that I'm human. Now I understand why.

7. The Cloudflare interrupt pages are legitimate

They're part of our infrastructure for stopping bots. Sometimes, if the firewall isn't sure whether a connection is a human or a bot, it will fire off a challenge. If you just check the box it should let you through no problem.

5. I'm Seeing The Issues Described In The OP...

intermittently the last couple days.
One early this morning., but perfectly normal since.
I did get a pop-up that was assuring i wasn't a bot, which I don't recall ever seeing before.
Maybe this was part of what EarlG says he was working on.

8. Issues sometimes happen.

When they do, I simply wait a bit and try again. At some point the issue goes away and I'm back using DU like normal.

eg: I just got a stall while the system checked something. 15 seconds and I was back on.
