New Texas law will require Ten Commandments to be posted in every public school classroom

Source: Associated Press

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas will require all public school classrooms to display the Ten Commandments under a new law that will make the state the nation’s largest to attempt to impose such a mandate.

The bill, which was signed into law by Gov. Greg Abbott, is expected to draw a legal challenge from critics who consider it an unconstitutional violation of the separation of church and state.

A similar law in Louisiana was blocked when a federal appeals court ruled Friday that it was unconstitutional. Arkansas also has a similar law that has been challenged in federal court.

The Texas measure easily passed in the Republican-controlled state House and Senate in the legislative session that ended June 2.

You'd think, as outspoken Christians, they would value the Sermon on the Mount from Jesus more than the Laws of Moses, but curiously they don't.

In fact, if you recite the Beatitudes, they act offended.

I reckon it is the hit dog that hollers.

The only book that should absolutely be banned is the Bible. It could have served a positive purpose like a book of fables that teaches lessons in small stories. But no, instead it's used to manipulate and control through fear. It seems the only inspiration it inspires is to punish your fellow human beings. And you stupid lazy f.cking parents don't want to take the time and discipline it take to raise moral law abiding citizens that care for their fellow citizens.
It's made by man to control other men. It's filled with fantastical stories which you believe over proven science.

What happened to not idolizing the golden cow. You made him your President and you think he's the second coming of Christ. That evil turd is what your idea of what Jesus is like? I guess Rat Face Miller is an archangel.
Don't get me started on what that makes Melania, out there washing the Felons cloven hooves.

I'm sorry to those faithful that choose to praise and see only the good. I wish you well. But this is not that. It could be worse, this could be Sunday.

Which version to the ten commandments are they going to use??? The bible alone has three distinctly different ones in different locations of the bible. The Catholic version is different as are some other Christian sects. The Jewish one is very similar to the fundamentalists Christians which are picked out of the three locations in the bible. So which one is pushed on all of us.

Looked it up last week.

It’s Exodus 20:2-17 coupled with Deuteronomy 5:6-21 (so it’s already a bastardization), King James Version. The early 17th Century Jebus lovers were so 'woke' to a book that has spells and potions that was NOT Harry Potter.

It’s definitely NOT the Catholic version I’m familiar with, nor any of the versions of the main Protestant churches of my east coast “yout,’ - so I see a problem here!

Don't the kids get this in Sunday school ready? And most are in secular law already too. So teach the kids the law of the land and the Constitution. Civics would be more useful than the ten commandments. Moses could no longer control the people he lead so he went away for forty days( why is everything 40 days in the bible) and carved some tablets with rules to make the people controllable.

I don't get why they think it's better than teaching the real laws of our country instead of the old laws of the Middle East. This is just to troll.

But, iirc, they are based on the systems of law set up by the ancient Greeks, chiefly.

Conservative Christians suffer from both a martyr complex and delusions of grandeur.

Correct – and Texas lawmakers know it.

This is about pandering to the base, the Christo-fascist right in particular.

This is about stirring up conflict and controversy, about dividing the people, about creating chaos and dysfunction that deflects from real issues and the failures of the GOP.
