The Trump administration is effectively shutting down a vast swath of summer programming and after-school activities after it froze more than $6 billion of funding to these programs this week.
Schools and organizations across the country have already informed parents to look at alternative options for their children, saying if the funding isnt released soon, many activities will be canceled immediately. And the options to mount a legal challenge or find other funding sources seem limited, as lawsuits take time and many states have already set their budgets for the year.
In Augusta, Ga., where more than 50 percent of the population lives below the poverty line, 1,100 kids daily go the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Augusta, with about 200 employees ensuring the programming runs smoothly.
We have summer camps rolling right now. Im depending on a reimbursement in July.
If we dont get that, we have kids who wont be served, said Kim Evans, the organizations president and CEO, adding her group typically receives $3 million from the federal government per year. We also have staff who are concerned about whether or not theyre going to have a job, Evans said.

BBB has pissed off a lot of people and some will change their priorities and behaviors. Future generations are a compelling narrative.

(20,758 posts)It's not just the physical presence such as preparing meals, packing bags, providing transportation, giving a loving hug.
It's also the money resources needed to obtain food, supplies, shipping, paying for facilities, utilities, etc.
But to have a trusted nation-wide network closed down on some Miller/trmp/musk whim is the depth of depravity.

(2,602 posts)... that voted for this asshole have to be realizing by now that hurting people that have done him no wrong is the whole point of his existence; it's what he lives for. Malice is his oxygen. Evil defines him. He is a fucking monster. That is indisputable, and it says nothing good about the pseudo-Christians that still support him. They can roast in Hell right along side him. AFTER we're done with them.

(2,602 posts)... how utterly bereft those two are of even the most fundamental understanding of the mechanics of tariffs, just like their imbecilic orange demigod. They are, indeed, psychotic cult members who long ago abandoned reason in favor of the pablum of supposed certainty offered by a veteran con artist. And, like all cultists, they'd carve their own eyes out with a rusty spoon before they'd EVER admit they'd been played like a cheap fiddle.
Excuse me, I need more coffee.
