There was no resolution Friday after Republic Services and Teamsters Local Union 25 spent hours at the negotiation table with a federal mediator in an attempt to end the ongoing trash strike impacting several communities in Massachusetts.
The union says the negotiations ended after 9.5 hours, claiming that while Republic Services added some money to its offer, it still fell several dollars short of the wages currently being paid to Capitol employees.
We tried everything to get a settlement, Tom Mari, President of Local 25, said in a statement. We even proposed a delay in implementing our health insurance proposal to replace the inferior company health insurance which would have been a savings to the company, but it was to no avail."
According to Mari, Republic Services refused to budge off its insistence that its employees stay in the companys less comprehensive health plan.
