GOP lawmakers, frustrated with dysfunctional Congress, head for the exits

Source: The Hill

01/02/26 6:00 AM ET

GOP lawmakers are fleeing for the exit in droves, with many pointing to a Congress they argue has grown too dysfunctional and a demanding schedule that leaves little time for their families.

More than 50 lawmakers in both parties have announced decisions to leave their seats, scrambling the calculus on both sides of the aisle ahead of next year’s high-stakes midterms.

The wave of exits could be particularly ominous for Republicans in charge of the House and Senate. The number exiting is nearly on par with 2018, a dismal midterm year for the GOP.

Some lawmakers frustrated with inaction on Capitol Hill plan to run for governor and other statewide offices, while others are stepping back from public office altogether.

Mike Johnson shut down Congress at the end of July to avoid a vote on the Epstein files. Then they took an extra long Christmas break. Not to mention the normal summer break. None of the Republicans are doing town halls in their own states and its not like they did any real work to lower the cost of healthcare.

Don't think they'll get much sympathy for their "demanding schedule".

congresscritters would hold up with an honest day job that most of us managed for 45-50
years.
I worked much harder on an easy day and for far less money under trying conditions and I’m
sure many folks here did as well.

When you run in the gop you run on dysfunction. Thanks to reagan and his successful disparaging of government the Grand Old Parrots have been ginning themselves up to tear down our workings ever since. As one angry Dem screamed on the House floor some years ago (I can't remember who) "You can't tear down the government and expect it to run!"

One would have expected DOGE to be every gopper's wet dream. Instead it turned out to be their shame and now that they realize their long-awaited dreamworld put into action by a pedophile is a dystopia, they want out. Idiots.

We are super lucky to have the great representation that we do in many places, including in my own state. I just hear people grumbling here that they’re not doing enough and very little recognition for how much crap they’re putting up with over and above the regular crap. It is a hairy situation and we shouldnt take any comfort it headlines like this one.

No fault of OP Brds, but a heads up.
