New wave of ICE deployments could impact more than 40 states

Source: USA Today

Updated May 7, 2026, 2:34 p.m. ET

Hundreds of new Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers and staff are being dispatched across the country to bolster immigration enforcement in big cities like New York and Houston and tiny towns like Derby, Vermont and Caribou, Maine, federal purchasing records show.

The purchasing records are for co-working style offices and desks, but not detention facilities. However, they provide a rare but narrow behind-the-scenes glimpse at how White House and Department of Homeland Security officials are preparing to ramp up immigration enforcement nationwide as billions of dollars flow into DHS and its agencies under last summer's federal spending plan.

ICE plans to deploy about 330 people to cities in more than 40 states, along with Puerto Rico, according to records reviewed by USA TODAY. Texas will receive the most, with 49 people deployed. Other cities targeted for increased ICE presence include Miami, Atlanta, Baltimore, Nashville and Seattle.

Smaller locations include Concho, Arizona; Manhattan, Kansas; and Hot Springs, South Dakota. It was not immediately clear how many of the locations on the list already have ICE or Customs and Border Patrol presence, or if the officers are new hires or relocations. The new assignments come several months after the Trump administration sharply curtailed its use of high-profile and controversial sweeps and raids in cities like Minneapolis, where two American citizens were fatally shot by federal agents in January.

Everyone is a tourist or an immigrant or an emigrant. I hear every language on the planet downtown. No way to distinguish. They can't arrest everyone.

Are they pointedly heading towards college towns? Does Manhatten have a Core Civic that the populace protested against? If so, I guess I can assume they'll hit my little burg at some point. We cancelled Core Civic at one point, only to be over ruled by a RW judge and legislature. I'm sure they'll have it in for us, too, at some point.

Some people love Lawrence, KS because of the JayHawks and the college there. Me, I always loved Manhattan, KS. Lots of good memories there. And lots of gorgeous independent bookstores.... but that was decades ago. I guess t's stormtroopers are going to tear it all down now. Damn him!

This might get really dicey in areas like the Lower East Side (Chinatown area). I know Chump is aware of it and he can't wait to attack.

I bet their budget is even higher than allotted. Spending billions of taxpayer money, dangling $50,000 signup bonuses at a time when they've made the country more expensive to live in.
Its obscene how they take advantage of desperate fools. Many of them uneducated racist assholes.

What is also scary is that this is a buildup of a Trump brown shirt militia which will carry on growing....even if Democrats win in November
