Tehran has demanded $300bn (£235bn) from the US to end the war in Iran and open up the Strait of Hormuz.

However, it will not give up control over the strategic waterway, according to a draft agreement published by Iranian state media.

The text emerged amid expectations that JD Vance, the US vice-president, would fly to Geneva to sign a deal before next week's G7 meeting in the French Alps.

The deal is understood to be a memorandum of understanding – effectively a promise to hold further negotiations rather than a finalized peace agreement.

That is according to Insider editor Michael Weiss, who appeared on MS NOW’s “Morning Joe” on Friday morning and claimed that the president has come to the realization that he was duped into the whole endeavor.

Pointing out that the president has announced an imminent deal is at hand countless times, co-host Joe Scarborough asked, “Why do we keep hearing the same thing over and over and over again when the Iranians have rejected this deal time and again, and hardliners in America have rejected this deal?”

Weiss replied, “I mean, I just want to read you — Iran's Mehr News Agency put out their version of this deal. But in their version of the deal they get $300 billion in reconstruction money, $24 billion in a cash infusion, half of which will come before the negotiations begin.”

They are running out of storage room and will have to start shutting down wells, restarting their old wells is not always doable.

Because a U.S. naval blockade has prevented tankers from exporting crude, Tehran is expected to exhaust its remaining storage in a matter of days or weeks

Restarting old oil wells in Iran is an exceptionally difficult, slow, and expensive process. Because Iran’s fields are mature and suffer from historical underinvestment, a prolonged shutdown risks irreversible damage to the underground reservoirs, requiring billions of dollars to rehabilitate.

They can talk tough but will need a deal more then the US soon.
