Georgia 2-year-old shot, killed by 4-year-old as family checked into vacation rental

Source: WSB TV

A 2-year-old Georgia boy died after detectives say he was accidentally shot by a 4-year-old during a family vacation in Florida.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office says the family from Jefferson County, Ga. was checking into Cove East at Storey Lake around 4 p.m. Sunday while the two children were left unsupervised in a vehicle.

Deputies say a 4-year-old found the gun and shot the 2-year-old, who was rushed to the hospital. He didn’t make it.

“The gun was unsecured. I would think of his in a holster, maybe make it harder for the child to manipulate as well. But it’s literally laying out by itself. So it’s easy to grab,” Sheriff Chris Blackmon said at a news conference.

This is only one of the gun related deaths I've read about today. It's sickening that gun deaths have become so normalized in 'Murica that we largely ignore them.

inside alone, unsupervised. Parental neglect, at the very least. Raw tragedy in truest American fashion.

It's a terrible tragedy and my heart goes out the the 4 year old who will have to live with what happened, no matter the memory is recalled later.

But truly I hope the parents are put up for negligent homicide and whatever else they can stack onto them.

My archaic understanding of that word does not fit in today’s child abuse reality.
Thank you.

from the second suggestion in reference to children. They have since updated to the much more appropriate "cherish"

It’s kids that kill people! We need kid control now!

Or better yet, in MURICA it’s my right to leave an insecure gun my kid can use to kill my other kid!

I swear these gun nutters are afraid of their own shadow.

I hope they throw the book at the parents and make then look at a picture of their 2 yr old child all day and night in their prison cell, until they get taken out in a box.
