The wildfire emergency in northern Minnesota is set to worsen on Tuesday, with hot weather and gusty winds helping the spread of more than a dozen ongoing fires.
The growing danger presented by the fire forced the U.S. Forest Service to impose a complete closure of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness as of Tuesday morning.

St. Louis County Sheriff Gordon Ramsey told Northern News Now that since the wildfires broke out, 17 people have been rescued by air from the Boundary Waters, while forest staff are working to make contact with the estimated 2,000 still camping in the region on Monday.
