'South Texas will never be red again': Home builders warn GOP over Trump's immigration raids

(Politico) Home builders are warning President Donald Trump that his aggressive immigration enforcement efforts are hurting their industry. They’re cautioning that Republican candidates could soon be hurt, too.

Construction executives have held multiple meetings over the last month with the White House and Congress to discuss how immigration busts on job sites and in communities are scaring away employees, making it more expensive to build homes in a market desperate for new supply. Beyond the affordability issue, the executives made an electability argument, raising concerns to GOP leaders that support among Hispanic voters is eroding, particularly in regions that swung to Trump in 2024.

Hill Republicans have held separate meetings with White House officials to share their own electoral concerns.

On the one hand, I hate ICE and the way they’re handling their business.

But on the other hand, fuck these slave wagers and exploitative scum. If they’re so worried that these raids are killing their workforce, they’re admittting to hiring undocumented workers and they also should be arrested and/or heavily fined.

You don’t get to have it both ways. The assholes in this administration told everyone exactly what they were going to do and the business owners voted for them anyway. Assuming I’m sure that it wouldn’t hurt them, it would hurt someone else. And they were fine with that.

This why “right to work” sucks. It’s inherently geared toward exploitation.

Asphalt paving, roofing, foundations can be brutal in the summer for many Anglos.

Construction workers would come from Mexico to do those jobs, returning after the job was completed.

Houses are too expensive. So they propose 50 year mortgages, slap tariffs on Canadian lumber, and diminish the labor market.
