1957 Motorola portable tube radio with a secret

This little radio contains a component that was developed during the Korean war, and was secret at the time.

"This is one of only three radios built to display the advantages of the "Tinkertoy" technology developed in a secret project by the National Bureau of Standards (NBS) for the NavyBureau of Aeronautics. These models were reated to show commercial rthe pre-transistor technology. Motorola for one used the technology in some of their portable models."
