So I go in at 130pm today to say goodbye to my dear Baby Boy. Poor Shadow, she looks lost, waiting for him to walk in the door like he has every day before.
I'll post a eulogy later.
I'm here at the vet hang out with him for awhile, thanks to SheltieLover for the suggestion.

(83,210 posts)That's what I'd do. And take Shadow with you so she can say her goodbyes?
We will all be right there with you, John, in spirit.

(9,108 posts)has had a similar heartbreaking experience. Cuddles is an expression of who you are and you must be wonderful. Shadow knows this and needs you now as you need her.

(7,118 posts)I've been spending extra time with her since yesterday.
And yes, I'm so very grateful for all of you here and I know I'm amongst the very best pet lovers on earth.
If any of my process helps anyone else, I'll be glad I shared all of this. To imagine going through this without all of you is such a dark place to picture.

(7,118 posts)Oh I have treasure chests full of memories, with his golden coat, when we'd walk, and he would canter like he owned the whole world, I'd call him my little lion king.
He was my companion from October of 24 to Feb 21, 2025, the day I had my open heart surgery, he walked with me to that cemetery every day, and once there, after his sniffing around, he'd come hol in my lap and cuddle until I'd be ready to leave.
I never needed a leash, and he'd always beat me to the door when I'd ask if he was ready.
I swear to you, every single morning he would come hol in my bed and lay by my head after I gave him a quick chin bath with my goatee. He loved getting his head and neck"washed".
I've posted a few poems dedicated to him here and I have books worth of stories.
He would come with me to feed the strays back behind our trailer, closer to the cemetery. He met six of the cats back there, and was so well behaved with each one. He knew we were helping them, just like we helped him.

(2,260 posts)A friend have a wood sign that says,
I wish heaven had visiting hours,
But the other side says, we're all just walking each other home.
Love and comfort to you and your babies. 💔

(7,118 posts)I talked him through the crossing, told him not to be afraid, that Ill hold him until Snuggles and the rest of his welcoming committee greets him.
