Okay, what is it?

From SOTU. Someone asked who the distinguished woman is who escorted Joe Biden to the podium. So I found this photo. She's on the right.



She's Karen Gibson, Sergeant at Arms of the Senate.



Okay! Now the mystery.

The man on the left has what looks like a monocle or ring. Doesn't seem to have much refractive power. The white is probably a reflection of some of the house lights.

A monocle? The holder's finger covers most of the bottom rim. I've never seen such a gadget in the wild.

Have you? It's recorded for posterity.
