the Iris Nebula

known as NGC 7023 the nebula is blue becasue it'ss a reflection nebula. light from a star is being scattered by dust particle in teh same manner as scattering makes the sky blue. the wideer shot shows a lot of the dust besides the nebula

this is a total of 7 hours of exposure time (84 300 second exposures) from my backyard

Congratulations on a wonderful photograph. Your terrific image outdid this one which was published in Sky and Telescope magazine: https://skyandtelescope.org/online-gallery/ngc-7023-the-iris-nebula-4/

I can see where this nebula gets it name! It really does resemble an iris. And what a gorgeous color!
