        I tossed a tripod with one leg that would not lock. 
Trick is: the bolt is 1/4-20.  Bore a 1/4 inch hole in your cane. Recess a hole (1) in the top for the nut. Glue a big washer to the top, and grippy rubber to it. 
No need for knurled tightening disk. It's a monopod. Just twist it!
(1) Use a spade bit a tad > 1/4 inch or a forstner. 
I get all my tripods and monopods at the thrift store. Cheeeeep. People abandoned cameras for phones. Their loss. I usually carry the old coolpix with me on drives. Some 42X zoom catches everything, even hard to snap birds.
