NGC 7293 the helix nebula sometimes called the eye of sauron
located about 650 light years away the nebula is the result of a sun type star shedding its outer layers as it reach dthe end of its life about 11000 years ago
this is 12 hours of exposure time in my backyard

Was that 12 hours over the course of successive nights? Of course at northerly latitudes at this time of year, 12 hours of darkness is reality.

it took me 3 nights to get the data. after 4 hours or so it is blocked by my neighbors house
